Forums - Sales - retailers suck at being retailers

I have walked into stores out of boredom or not knowing what I am going in there to purchase. I guess I just don't take people's word for granted. I have talked with employees talking about games but I would always go home and check whatever game they are talking about online. I suppose I am not so impulsive buyer. Sure there are plenty impulsive buyers but I believe gamers go into a store knowing what they want to purchase. Has a person working in game section got someone to buy a game that they wouldn't before walking I am sure of it. I just think the days of looking at the box art/screenshots (NES/16-bit era) is over. Gamers have access to too much information on internet. So sure there should be a store that employs employees to know what they are talking about. However, all these companies don't pay crap to their employees. I guess we get what we deserve when Gamestop buys out all the competition besides Wal-mart, Best Buy, and Fry's Electronics. I will admit that I did ask a Fry's Electronics employee which headphones I should get and he game me return ratio semi facts about the headphones. I ended up buying Creative Noise Canceling Headphones HN-605....

wow, sucks not to live in Australia.

We may pay more for our games, but our customer service is tip-top. If you go in to any gaming store (EB games, Game or whatever) they only employ people that love gaming. I've often decided on which game to buy based on the recommendation by the staff. What's more, they recommend based on their taste as a gamer, not what will ring the most profit to their store, I've often asked which is better out of game A or B, and been told to buy game B, even though that store doesn't stock it

I would much rather pay less instead of paying to get advice I can just look up on the internet. I've mainly been ordering my games online anyways (both used and new).

I will tell you one retailer who seems to care about gamers CIRCUIT CITY. Fable 2 came with a $15.00 Itunes card, Fallout 3 a $10.00 gift certificate, Far Cry 2 free strategy guide, and gears of war 2 free 1600 MS card.

I have been impressed with there customer service latly they great me at the door.

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

@xman I wonder why Circuit City is failing so much? I thought they went bankrupt a year ago. It will be amazing to see them last more than 5 years from now.

very true, but the single associate is the one who might be able to spark something to get people off their arses. Its kind of the jealous factor. If one worker makes it so that you look like a lazy ars compared to him you will want to work harder.

Don't take this the wrong way because I mean this as more of a joke but have you ever worked at a job? A hard worker likely isn't going to be able to make lazy ass bums do their job better. It's unfortunate but that's the way it is. Other workers won't get jealous, they'll simply take delight in that one or more of their coworkers are working extra hard so they feel they can take it easy. I've been working for 12 or 13 years now and I've always known that to be the case. Coworkers will stand or sit around and not do the job because they know someone else will pick up the slack.

I like your thinking and I wish in real life, it proved true but it rarely, if ever happens.

Circuit City doesn't care, they're desperate to make money. If they care about gamers or any of their customers, they would've fixed up their stores and made them neater and easier to find items. The stores I visit are always a mess. Also, they charge $20, I think for their gamers membership. Best Buy has been offering their Reward Zone card for free for a few years now and also extended a gamers club out of the Reward Zone also for free. If any store at least acts as if they care for their gamers and customers in general, it's Best Buy. And what I mean by "acts if they care" is that no big chain store or big company truly cares for their customer beyond what's in their wallet or purse.

I'll come up with something better eventually...

What pisses me even more with Wal-Mart (and Best Buy) is that when you call to know if they have any Wii, Wii fit, Guitar Hero, etc. in stock, they always talk to you like you were a moron and that, of course, they don't have any.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Do you know what it's like to be on the other end of that call though? I used to work in electronics at Zellers and I once counted 40 Wii calls in a 6 hour shift. And that's only the ones I answered. Of course this was December and it's not always that busy, but you can see where I'm going. I was never rude about it, but it really gets annoying when you're trying to do stuff and the phone keeps ringing.

My game stores all are very knowledgeable. But I could just have a weird Gamestops....

Former something....

I, for one, am glad I do not have to tell employees that I do not need any help. I always research items before I purchase them and thus do not need any help. Unless I need help locating what I am looking for, and in that case, I go to them.
