Don't wii numbers include wii play?

That may be part of the reason it has 1st party highest attach rate.

Just a thought.

Wii Play, Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii, Brawl, ...    take your pick.

I am not sure what the numbers include, but since Wii Sports was a pack in, it should not have been counted in the US.  Wii Play was $10 game which was quickly forgotten and only bought for the Wiimote, so it should really have counted as 0.2 games bought per unit.  The same could be argued for Link's Crossbow Training, but I'd say in that package the periferal was not the main attraction.  WiiFit and Mario Kart should however count as full games, because they are selling the balance boards and wheels, and not vice versa.  I'm not sure why you brought up Brawl.

He brought up brawl because it is one of many 1st party games that have had incredible sales which only Guitar Hero has been able to come remotely close to from the 3rd party camp

So, the average PS3 has 5.3 games for it.
Damn. I have 11.

Damn, my PS3, which will not be taken out of the box until after Christas already has 5 games.  I will be almost average on day 1.

there is another way we could look at it, there might be a large number of people using it as a blueray player thus offseting people who use it as a game system. this would destroy your attach rate fairly quickly

Well then lets look how many consoles sold at the 23 month stage and see how many games sold in total.

consoles sold Total first party Total 3rd party

Wii 35.46 85m 109m

360 12.8 18m 66m

PS3 16.5 15m 73m

So really 3rd party publishers should like the Wii much more because it has sold alot more games on it than the others. In reality the attach ratio is only good when all consoles have sold roughly the same. Its the total games that really matter to publishers.

How did you come up with those figures? If I figured that article, those attach ratios were from US market only.

According to this site, the current (LTD) third party sales for all platforms are something like 125 million for 360, 63 million for wii and 61 million for ps3.

A $10 game, quickly forgotten and only bought for the Wiimote? The game averages over 9 hours of play according to the Nintendo Channel. Certainly more than 0.2 games.

Wii Sports also wasn't included. This gives a huge advantage to the other consoles, seeing as how their bundled games are included. Before you come up with the idea that few people would actually buy the game, it costs about $40 in Japan and has nearly a 50% attach rate. It's also played for over 33 hours on average per Wii.
