Publishers don't really care about the attach ratio, they care about the total volume of sales. Wii, having launched a year after X360, is only a few million units behind in 3rd party software. How's that for 3rd party software doesn't sell on Wii?

 

I BELIEVE that the attach ratios are for US only, but that would probably only strengthen your point ;)

Edit: Numbers for US:

PS3:
1st party - 0.9 x 6.26 million = 5.63 million
3rd party - 4.4 x 6.26 million = 27.54 million
Total - 5.3 x 6.26 million = 33.18 million

X360 (edited again for US sales of 360 after september 2007):
1st party - 1.4 x 7.62 million = 10.67 million
3rd party - 5.2 x 7.62 million = 39.62 million
Total - 6.6 x 7.62 = 50.29 million

Wii:
1st party - 2.4 x 15.68 million = 37.63 million
3rd party - 3.1 x 15.68 million = 48.61 million
Total - 5.5 x 15.68 million = 86.24 million

Ah, but all of the 360's sales are from Real Games. The Wii only sells kiddy s*** Nintendo games Casual Crap like Wii Play, and No More Heroes. Not quality titles like the 360, a.k.a. Kayne and Lynch, or 50 Cent.

Ack, you're right! And if people actually play it, it doesn't count...put in Wii Fit, then. It's an exercise regimen, so I can guarantee people bought it and never used it.

Ok, I can understand the argument that you can't own a Wii in the US and not own Wii Sports (without some odd import hoop jumping)

But you can very easily own a Wii, and buy Wii Remotes without buying Wii Play. The analogy is not the same, so please stop saying "You can't not buy Wii Play" because its very obvious you can.

A comparable comparison would be the relationship of Wii Play sales to the number of people with more than one remote. THEN you can say "you can't own less than one remote if you own a wii and wii play"

And do you all know what's crazy?

THE ATTACH RATE IS STILL INCREASING!

All of this, in the face of:
- Selling 2+ million consoles a month.
- "Third party games don't sell on the wii dur hurr hurrr"
- And the ps3/360 obsessives.

It's impressive... PRETTY DAMN IMPRESSIVE. Why do people even bother trying to downplay it to be something as a negative?

A few quick thoughts.

The PCWorld piece is by Wii-basher extraordinaire Matt Peckham. So it really does not count. He does not take time to understand the numbers (which are routed in NPD -- which does not count Wii Sports). He also has funny numbers for Wii Sports and Wii Play. If you are using him as a source, he is biased!

The Wii moves software. I think we all know that. Most of us just like to see some better software. If you don't accept these, you are not realistic.

no more heroes wasn't a huge seller either.

 

compared to mgs4 halo3 you know those exclusives- third party games(yes bungie is third party now)

I think it has been said twenty times. NPD doesn't include Wii Sports, that set of data is from NPD. Thus even if the author might try to say it does, his own data says otherwise.
