I know I'll probably be brutally massacred for this, but Pokemon is not even a very good RPG series. Basic leveling system, and the battle system has changed very little after what, nearly 2 decades? Also, since when was Ocarina of Time an RPG? World of Warcraft is at #2?

People weren't kidding when they said this was a bad list.

Grandia did good.Put it on number 1 and i'm happy.

Very good list tho.

bad list, no lost odyssey,tales of vesperia,shadow hearts,legend of dragoon,final fantasy 10,final fantasy 8,final fantasy 11,grandia 3,tales of the world:radiant mythology, xenosaga, they missed so many very good to great rpg's that its a complete joke.

Oh man, I was jut about to write "No Diablo or WoW? Major fail." Then I hit the last page.... I like this list a lot. Except the fact that Fallout 1 and 2 were far better than 3 and Deus Ex is NOT an RPG.

Edit: Are they alright? Saying that Diablo is not a full blown RPG is like saying Half-Life is not a full blown shooter.

Final Fantasy X should be on there.  Maybe even Star Ocean 3 IMO but I didn't play a lot of games on that list(especially when it comes to WRPGs).

Wow, no Panzer Dragoon Saga makes this a total failure.

@Montanahatchet: a good +1. Pokemon is good (I don't like it, but it's good), but not enough to be on a "best rpg list" or somethin.

Deus Ex is a lot more RPG than Diablo II, a fantasy setting alone does not make an RPG. Diablo II is mostly action with RPG elements, at least a basic dialogue system, rewards for actions rather than or in addition to kills and the use of versatile skills should belong in most if not all RPG's. Diablo II is mostly about hacking up baddies and that's pretty much it, the RPG elements are not at the core and are very shallow indeed.

Regarding Fallout 1 and 2 versus 3; you are absolutely right on that one, Fallout 3 was/is to me mere shadow of the original two.

In Deus Ex with good enough aim and strafing ability you could beat the whole game with the pistol, it's an FPS far more than it is an RPG. On the other hand Diablo has everythign an RPG is, skill points, gear for attribute points are used (which you assign as well), and all of that based on experience gain and level of the character. It's an RPG in every dimension.

All right since the majority of this board highly disagrees with the list (Including me), why don't we revise the list then? Just a thought ^_^'
