Because the large majority of gamers either ignore or don't even check reviews.

because right now a large majority of gamers are only buying games that have guns in them and are FPS.

Okami,Wieftiful Joe: unique art-style that isn't popular with a lot of gamers

Bioshock (ps3): Do you really expect people to buy a year old port when there are other great games coming out for PS3 in this month?

Ninja Gaiden's: Sold just fine, would easily be a million seller if it were a multiplatform.

Nhl 09: Who the hell plays hockey in US? (and this is coming from a Canadian)

Soriku (Feb 10/08): In 5 years the PS3/360 will be dead.

Alot of games that get 9+ doesn't often deserve it.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

Right, right.

*Looks at Wii Fit, Wii Play, and the dozens of other casual games dominating the charts*

Well, unless we have some different definition of "gamer," then I'd say that's wrong. A lot of the problems with games like these is that either they're old ports that most people have already played (Bioshock PS3, for example) or have little to no advertising (Okami). I saw a couple magazine ads for Okami, but never a single commercial. Viewtiful Joe must have done at least okay, since it got its own TV show. And for that matter, why do some games with low review scores do so well? It's all about image, marketing, box art, etc.
