Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for October may have a positive effect as well.

Look back a few weeks in these threads. Hot Shots Golf was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread, the all-out savior of the PS3. It's far from unsavable, but HSG didn't do much more than give a little push. |
How do you know hardware sales arent even in yet? How would you know if it was just a "little" push? What if half of those 150k were ps3 consoles being sold since the game is bundled. You dont know how big of a push it is. I expect atleast 300k for the first week.

yep
gran turismo 5 prologue(oct)
dynasty warrior (sep)
blade storm (sep)
winnig eleven(oct)
...
and news ips can do good
By jan 08 I HOPE the Ps3 will have 45k per week in Japan
Supporter of
SONY & Nintendo
Consoles owned - SNES, N64, PS, GC, PS2, PSP, PS3
I DO NOT support Xbox
My prediction for YEARS END:
WII - 18.3 Million
Xbox 360 - 15 Million
Playstation 3 - 8.5 Million
@mrstickball,
If the PS3 moves 40k units in japan this week that is a success for the game and the PS3 no doubt. Anyone saying otherwise is crazy. How likely is it to hit that number though? The last 4 weeks average sales have been ~13.3k, so 40k is essentially a tripling of sales. I don't know the Japanese markets as well as some of you, so I have to ask if that kind of move in sales due to game releases has any prior precedent?
As for being a console saver, in my mind it would need to account for at least some prolonged period of sales increase for it to be called that, and right now I don't think we really have any information to go on. So for my part at least I reserve judgment but I am skeptical that any single software title is capable of being a system saver.

sales went from 20k to 43k when gundam musou came out, but I think that is a different story. That is 2 franchises in 1 game that have a much more loyal and hardcore following than HGS. Even if they did it is really only double the sales. This was much earlier in the year when PS3 was selling better. I expect something around 20-25k i guess.
currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

I think we'll find out at TGS. I know they've announced a bunch of stuff but all of them seem to be 2008+. As of now those are pretty much the only Japanese focused games they got coming out. It looks like the Xbox360 effec... Japan can get their soccer on with the ps2. Winning Eleven doesn't have the kind of graphics that makes you want a PS3 anyways.
Judging by Gundam Mousou sales, Dyntasty Warrior / Blade Storm won't push the system much either. Titles for the japanese market still looks bleak. They've even rejected some good stuff. So nothing short of existing AAA franchises will do.
The Japanese like mini games the best, and I really don't see what the PS3 has to offer in that genre. Devil May Cry is a game that comming out this year that does well in Japan.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. While 2008 could be huge for PS3 in Japan and it's quite normal that sony still have not a catalogue with 4/5 AAA titles in its first year on the market, they would need at least one killer app for the upcoming holidays (i mean something like Shirokishi, MGS, FF) especially if we consider that not only nintendo will do great, but even microsoft has a couple of AAA games. But it seems that they don't right now.
Let's wait for TGS, but honestly it seems the perfect place to reveal 2008/9 projects and too close to holidays to announce christmas megatons
