Um... whose? If the PSP did nearly that many, it should be a given the DS' demand will be even higher. I wonder why Nintendo seems to release so few the opening week...

 

When they do stuff like that, it makes people go crazy, and causes news stories to circulate about the popularity of their hardware, and also creates stir/hype/demand.

 

Now, if they do it on purpose or not, who is to say. However, if they don't do it on purpose...they should.

And the guy above stole what I was going to say, that the DSi will be HUGE. The DS handheld line has legs and the games to boot, so it will be bigger than the little game we all know and love hate.

Well, PSP 3000 sold 160k in japan first week. I don't see why Nintendo came out with shipment less than half of that O_o

Probably not. It is either becuase

  1. They are hold supplies as not to exhaust them in one run. Is smart as it keeps the customer coming back rather then having them lose interest
  2. There is something in manufacturing where you have a maximum number of items produced to make you the maximum profit. Becuase of overtime and utility cost, there is a peak where you can make a product and all others produced in that time period will lose the company money. So, if the max is 3000, 3001 will make ~ the same as 2999. So, overall, you'll never make that money back, and made two extra units.
