Forums - Sales - DSi Japan Launch

Well seeing Ronnins figures it has a good chance of beating the DSLs first week sales, but I still doubt that the legs will be there... but who knows ;) With games like DQ9 a couple of months away, there could be many factors that could reignite the DS interest ( that was still pretty powerfull even when it wasnt at the top ) and we could see another series of weeks where hw sales could be above 100k... after Q4 that is :P

I think it will beat the DSL launch :B

Let me say it again - it can't. DSL launch had 550,000 units available. DSi launch only has 300,000 units.

Simple math says... it's impossible!

Wow, they actually have to carry signs saying who's at the front and who's at the back of the line.

It's be an ache on the ol' arms if you're the only person in the line.

Not really a line if it has 1 person.

You are correct. It's a dot and it takes two dots to draw a line.

Wow... I wonder why so many were sold. It really isn't that much of an upgrade and the DS has pretty much reached the saturation point in Japan..

How is it mathematically impossible to beat DSL launch? There is a post in this thread that says it sold 124k week one. The DSi only has to supply that many to stores for it to be possible.

Only true for the gamer DS owners. The next step in blue ocean was to gain the distant market. People who wouldn't normally buy one. That's why it comes with distant gaming features. Media, camera, SDcard, downloadable content... Camera, built in media player can be signifigant upgrades when trying to reduce size. PSP had good ideas on doing this, but failed in key portable areas. Battery life, size and interface. Smart phones are better interface. The DSi outside of having phone capablilities has just about everything for portable device.

anyways. If those pictures are taken with the DSi camera. That's pretty good. It's about what I was expecting. Very viewable casual pictures.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Do you have eyes? Can you read? Is 300k > 550k? No? Okay, then it's mathematically impossible.

It's been stated a multitude of times now that there were 550,000 DS Lite units available during March 2006, when the DS Lite released. Meanwhile, Nintendo has stated that the DSi's initial shipment will be 200,000, with an additional 100,000 following it up later. That makes 300,000.

Unless they manage to ship more than they've stated they're going to, they will not be able to beat DS Lite's launch. Absolutely no chance. 300,000 will always come before 550,000.

The problem with the numbers I posted earlier is that they also include the original DS. According to one of Nintendo's financial reports they shipped 580,000 DS Lite units in March.

Well... then again, who cares if it will be the DSLs first week or not... it will be a monster no matter how good shipment will be ;)
