Forums - Sony - Gamepro - "Killzone 2 may be the best looking FPS ever"

Crysis is still considered to be the best looking PC game, but I prefer the looks of Killzone 2. It's due to a combination of art direction/assets, amazing effects (such as the game's lighting) and animation.

PC vs PS3, modern PCs have the advantage of being able to do higher resolutions and higher framerates. Having said that 720p with a solid 30 FPS is enough for the bulk of console games to provide a superior experience on a big HDTV screen (vs the 17 inch monitor I have on my desk and I don't want a bigger screen in my workroom anyhow). For me no fuss living room gaming is far more appealing, wireless Sixaxis controllers, big screen HDTV, kick ass 7.1 audio, etc.

The PS3 has some important strongpoints compared to PC game potential, for one developers can focus on one specific core hardware configuration, secondly there is the Cell processor which provides various potential advantages (with effort) over much more costly PC processors regarding games/multi-media potential and the PS3 has Blu-Ray which allows for more content and graphics/audio content on a single disc.

In any case Killzone 2 will be PS3 exclusive, nomatter costly modern PCs are capable of doing the game better in theory the game will not be on the PC. Killzone 2 may well become the best looking FPS. A new PC game may require 6 GBs of RAM, 1 GB video RAM, a 16 core CPU and what not and run in 120 FPS, 2160p and still not look as good as Killzone 2.

I really didn't want this to turn into a PC vs PS3 but I guess the PS3 fans won't let it drop. Hate to break it to you but any point you make after "Secondly" is completely pointless. My alarm clock probably has more memory than the PS3, and who gives a crap about how much you can store on a disk when you have a 500 gig HDD and no one is forcing you to pay per disk? DVDs are cheap right now, VERY cheap. Also if you are gonna go the directoin of arguing art direction, I'm sorry but KZ2 loses to so many other games with better art directions that it's not even funny. Can you say Psychonauts?

You are also right, it won't be on the PC but it's probably better this way. It would get low sales since PC gamers don't like the dumbed down console shooters (any such games for that matter, look at UTIII) and then the devs will go on bitching about dozens of other problems (ZOMG PIRATEZ!!!) instead of admitting their game was crap compared to other, deeper games.

The only reason Killzone 2 actually looks good in motion is because of the blur.

End of '08 predictions (made by theprof00): PS3: 20m, 360: 23.5m, wii: 42m

Now Playin':  PS3|Resistance 2, LBP, Uncharted and Fifa 09, PSP| Ratchet and Clank: Size matters, 360| Gears of war 2 and Fallout 3.

I think that Killzone 2 will be the best looking console shooter. I cant wait for the game. But to be realistic, i dont think that anything can beat crysis on max setting in the next 1-2 yrs.

I think it's unlikely people will want to install 6 DVDs onto their harddrives each time a new game comes out. Far more likely the developing company will make sacrifices to stay on as few discs as possible (a 6 disc casing is also expensive and not very shelf space friendly). Crysis is a very ambitious game which could have taken great advantage of more storage space (lossless 7.1 audio and higher quality textures) yet comes on only 1 DVD.

The alarm clock comment is probably a PC gamer fanboy exaggeration. On a PC you need a lot of memory because Vista isn't memory efficient and running in the background and often far worse memory optimisations. Far more important is high bandwidths and low latency with regard to the PS3. I would suggest you compare the NeoGeo (a past gaming console) specs with PC specs of the time and then compare game quality to understand what I am referring to.

50 GB would be a lot of data to install to the harddrive and thus quite a fuss to install in one go (from either Blu-Ray disc or mutli-ple DVDs), however streaming such content gradually from disc during gameplay at 9 MB/s (minimal it takes 92 minutes) it could take just a very small game length (couple of hours) to stream all this data from disc.

Sadly I have to break it to you, Call of Duty 4 was by far the best sold PC shooter last year. Sales were however dwarfed by the console versions.

Or compare Amiga vs PC games from the past which required multiple amounts of RAM to play on the PC (as well as a faster CPU and a harddrive).

http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=cETl8PhUy_E (all these games ran 100% on lowend models of the time, the PC versions often required recent upgrades, later Amiga exclusive games pushed the lowend models much better though)

Fanboys BS talking. Killzone is a drop in the Crysis ocean.

ALL the Killzone Haters in here, why do you need to Marginalise Killzone ? @Shio Those Shots arent even fair,You posted A dark screenshot of Killzone but next to all the Light Filled Crysis ones, Hardly fair. Killzone 2 will be the KING of all shooters . QUOTE me on This.

Oh god.. WTF is this about again.. another redundant thread. I think I saw this way back.. or just last month. It's a different comparison but same category. I mean seriously wtf...
