Forums - Sales - Nielsen numbers - Blu Ray : DVD = 12% : 88% for the week ending 26th October, 2008

You guys do realize that as BR hardware becomes more popular, choices will present themselves, and it will reduce the number of PS3s bought as BR players, right?

I think DVD still has another good year left before it is consistently outpaced, and BR players become affordable to the mainstream..

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

No one is buying PS3s as Blu Ray players.

that thing is floored by MS and XBOX FANBOYS

over 5m standalone Blu ray players have been sold worldwide

In the same way i can also say that some people are buying x360 as DVD players since all x360 games so far disappointed unlike MGS4 and LBP on PS3

like i said DVD will be finished very soon in Japan

On december 6th 2008 we will see DVD era end before our eyes in US

Digital distribution will never take off. It will make up <1% of sales even after 10 years

Who cares about PS3's bought as BR players? BR is a great format, I'm glad it's succeeding.

I was just going by the Pachter anecdote where he said they were giving away PS3s as BR players, with new HDTVs at, I think he said, Circuit City.

I know at least some people are buying PS3s as BR players, because I exist.

As for caring about PS3s bought as BR players, I'm sure that Sony fanboys would care a lot, if PS3 sales dipped at all.

5m non PS3 BR players have been sold worldwide, and 16 million PS3s, yet BR makes up 12 percent of the home video market? We know one thing, PS3 owners are a the vast majority of the BR market worldwide, and without the PS3, BR would probably be struggling.

Keep calling me a fanboy and I'll bring up your comments from the Fable 2 thread again. What I'm saying has nothing to do with the Xbox 360, and more to do with obviousness.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

PS3 is the reason why BR beat HD-DVD. Without PS3 maybe BR would lose or still compete with HD-DVD.

Persona4 = WIN

PSP fanboi

BR in the PS3 only mattered to win the format war. From here on out it doesn't matter if there are more standalone BR players. Hell, DVD players were as cheap as $150 by the time the PS2 came out and that didn't stop people from buying the PS2 as their main DVD player. It's a two-in-one package that means a lot of added value to people. The fact that BR is picking up steam helps Sony, and the fact that BR players are getting cheaper and selling more doesn't hurt the PS3. In fact, it validates BR as a future standard and makes the BR feature of the PS3 even more tempting to people that can't justify a standalone player.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

that's pretty good for a new format, especially considering that the DVD format has been out for years.

Things just continue to improve for Blu-ray. The week TDK launches is going to be very interesting. Many people are going to be shocked just how well Blu-ray does this year. How many of you really think Samasung, Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, or any other HDTV maker is actually going to let people take a HDTV home without Blu-ray this holiday? Every single company backing Blu-ray will make sure their new TV owners get a Blu-ray player with their purchase via combos. Stand alone players will have added incentive for the HDTV owners that have not yet moved up.

Blu-ray is here to stay, and the bigger it becomes, the more it becomes a big feature in the PS3. As the prices drop people will start to get interested, and smart consumers will do research once they are ready. I stronly feel that just as people felt more value in PS2 as a DVD player, they will see the value in PS3 as their Blu-ray player.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Without the ps3, HD-dvd would most likely have won.

But therefore the ps3 is still a great gaming machine.
