@ kirby: the game is a critical succes, and a game where many people consider it "must-have for PS3 owners". That is not hype, that is the reality surrounding the game.

I wonder what you would've said if Japan refused to buy a game that you absolutely adore, that got raving reviews and was on the Xbox.

"good, they are better gamers than I expected" and "they don't fall for crazy hypes"? Yeah right.

And you posted in another thread just so you could come back and hopefully laugh when some predictions concerning the HW sales went bad for Sony.  No, absolutely no flamebait, absolutely not a fanboy of the XBox360, you're completely objective

Several people seemed to agree with this thread. (Early September)

But by the time this thread came out (this week) only CrazyMan was going much bigger than these numbers.

A great example of "moving the goalposts" in action. Somehow, in the last two months, we went from "Little Big Planet will be the top PS3 game in Japan this year!" to "no one expected big sales, Little Big Planet doesn't appeal to the Japanese gamers."

What's even better is that some of the exact same people are posting in these threads...

End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)

@Soriku
You´re cheap that is the same comment you post in the news.

That would have been the joke of the year, if you had said that kirby :)

LBP was always going to struggle - especially in Japan.

Its a new franchise, and we all know how they have been going recently (with the exception of "Wii..." titles). Its also a casual title on the PS3.

Sony should have released a PS2 (!) version first - then a PS3 one. Then sales could have skyrocketed.

Anyway, its *very* early days. WiiMusic did 100k week#1 - if LBP does 60k, I'll call it a success for Sony.

O a game bundled with a controller and not selling, maybe sony should should try that with more games and try to match that other game bundled with a controller that is selling like hot cakes.

In the end, when counting all the bundle sales, LBP should reach a few million life time sales since I don't see a LBP 2 until PS4. It will do good, sales wise but this won't do mascot type sales/influence like Halo and Mario. Sony is still going to be in a uphill battle after LBP.

I'm going to wait for full week sales that include bundles before I make any real conclusions about how good/bad this is ...

The one thing I can say is that this seems like a (very) good performance for a new title that is an unusual take in an unpopular genre, and it only is really a bad performance when you take into account people's expectations and how hard the game was pushed.

LBP did as well as it should have in Japan. Seriously...it's a Western level creator platformer. Did people really have uber high expectations for this? It will do well in the West, but not in Japan. If you want to see some more decent PS3 sales look forward to WKS and much later FF XIII (before FF XIII though there will be that FF XIII demo), and possibly RE5 which comes in March IIRC. March should be a good month for the PS3 I'd say.

LBP might have legs. I think PS3 HW will be at 20k or so. We'll have to see week 2. If the PS3 drops ~10k next week it's in serious trouble.

We are talking about Japan market right? Besides games like Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest or Pokemon and some ''Wii'' titles  there is no game with legs in that country.
