Could the launch of the sequel to the award-winning killer TPS rival Halo 3's (or come close)?

Here are my thoughts:

Halo: Combat Evolved, the game that started it all, sold exceedingly well, and its sequel remains one of the fastest-selling video games in the history. Gears of War, on the other hand, has also sold well, but it hit the 5,000,000 mark much faster than Halo: Combat Evolved, and has also been hailed as Microsoft's next Halo. 

So, could Gears of War 2's launch come close to Halo 2's and Halo 3's? What do you think?

I happen to find that very unlikely. Selling as fast as Halo? Just repeat that to yourself until it sinks in.

response why the hell would gears rival with halo and there on the same console. and there is no way in hell that gears2 will sell more than halo 3

I would hope so, its an amazing game, and Gears of war is just awsome.

I seriously hope that piracy wont hurt the sales, but I doubt it will have any affect in sales.

no, halo is the flagship 360 title so gears wont topple halo ever!

there are simply so many halo copies that microsoft has, every almost every 360 bought comes with halo 3, and its priced new at £9.99 now at many places, so halo will continue to sell lots

Yes, I know, it's very hard, especially since Halo 2 exceeded the 5 million mark after merely three weeks, but it could be possible.

I think GOW2 will eventually sell 8 - 9 mill LT.

You may be right. I mean, Halo: Combat Evolved hit 5,000,000 in two years (like Gears of War), and Halo 2 sold 5 million in three weeks, probably because the first one was well-liked, and a great deal of people looked forward to the sequel. Isn't is the same thing for Gears of War 2?

I think out of the gate it may outsell Halo 3 but I think Halo has legs and will win out at the end
