Forums - Gaming Discussion - Just finished MGS 3: Snake Eater... dear god

The games are about as epic as games can get... it's probably.. my 2nd favorite game. Second only to Final Fantasy X. And I've yet to play MGS4, so that all may change.

Btw, I had myself saluting the screen when Snake was. The amazing thing about this game, is that in the end, after the Boss is done for, your opnions about her and Eva change entirely... a character that you detest throughout the whole game, the Boss, becomes one you respect to the most, and the one charming and adorable charcter you like, Eva, becomes someone you detest... the change is so radical it's not even funny.

I'd also like to add that Kojima is God on earth :P

Definitely one of the most incredible game experiences of the last generation.

I've bought it on three separate occasions: snake eater, subsistence (the proper version to play) and again with the MGS collection version.

I still enjoy watching the cut scenes in theater mode in addition to replaying various favorite sections of the game.

Odd thing is it took a second look at the game (subsistence) before the game really grew on me. The fixed camera angles of snake eater were a bit of a game breaker for me and all I wanted to do was skip ahead to the next story cut scene.

MGS2 had a much more memorable ending. For those of you who prefer inherently shallow, meaningless closures MGS3 will appeal more but those who appreciate intellect, those who thirst for knowledge and understand MGS2 provided much more meat.

That game wouldn't end. Seriously, like every time I thought it would finally end, somebody would come back.

I dunno, I was kind of just relieved that it was finally the actual end and I didn't really get any emotional about it.

Good game overall though.

I know it's an old game, but I finally got round to playing it and finished it yesterday night. Just wanted to share with you guys that this is the most moving, beautiful ending to a game I've ever seen, and there has never been a videogame that got me this close to crying.

I suppose I should give out a SPOILER warning for those few who still intend to play this game...

The gameplay was starting to bore me actually, but then I got to the part where you have to plant the C3 in the Groznyj Grad Hangar. The 2-3 hours after that were some of the most memorable pieces I've ever seen: fighting Volgin in an epic battle, Ocelot turning his back on the Colonel, the Shagohod chasing me while I was doing drive-by on the motorcycle, finally hearing the Metal Gear Solid theme in the background for the first time while the Shagohod crawled out of the river, EVA getting impaled, and then...

The epic battle with the Boss, and of course the cutscene that precedes it. I was already moved, especially by the setting in the white flower bed. Then, when the Boss lies at your feet, there's a cutscene, but you have to pull your trigger yourself. This simple thing really moved me; I felt like I was ending a life here, not just shooting at some pixels. Then the beautiful music, while the flowers turned red... shivers down my spine.

Then the final 'battle' with Ocelot, where you really start to respect the man, and the bond between him and Snake.

EVA turning out to be... not quite what you expected.

Snake going to the president, feeling out of place and deserted, refusing to shake hands...

But the very best, most moving scene was Snake, walking up to the Boss' grave. EVA's voice, full of sadness, explaining the situation, the music, Snake bowing forward, and then the obituary on her grave:

'A patriot who died for her homeland'

I had a lump down my throat and was almost crying. But the game had one more revelation for me: the true identity of Ocelot, coming as a total surprise. And to cap it all off, the brass James Bond theme ending it all. Dear god what a game. What it lacks in gameplay it makes up for with a moving and credible story. It is decent as a game, but it's one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Just wanted to have that said . How did you feel about this ending and the game itself?

I also had that same feeling, Awesome game.

One of the best games of all times.

This.

My outlook on video gaming changed completely after MGS2 & 3, somehow 4 managed to be even better.

if only i have time to replay the subsitence one !!!!!!!!!!!! i purchased it and never opened it ! :(

Currently Playing: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3), White Knight Chronicles (PS3), PES 2010 (PS3), Killzone 2 (PS3)

Games to Finish: Silent hill Homecoming (PS3), Valkyria Chronicles (PS3), Oblivion (PS3)

Did you try putting on the Raikov Mask while fighting Volgin? funny stuff. and I can't help but think that Code Geass ending is similar to that of MGS3's. the Author took some pointers from Kojima.

yeah, I did the same thing.  but for me Substance was the biggest reason the Collection.  I wonder if anyone got the Limited Edition of Subsistence (with 4 disc if preordered...I think)

Say guys, did this complete collection ever come out in PAL regions?
