Forums - Website Topics - VG Charts news section

Hey everyone As you have probably seen we have added a news section to the main homepage now and we have a plea. Can all of you regular guys (yes, we mean you) help us build up the news part of the site. We wanna post all the latest stories as they happen and try to make VG Charts your one-stop site for all the latest industry-related news and so on. The more we can build the site and build a reputation, the more industry people we can approach to give exclusive interviews / articles and so on. Also, this is a good chance for any of you who fancy writing for a major website / videogame journalism etc. We'd love to take a couple more people on to help with the site in the future - admins / news writers / general contributors - so if you are keen on this then let me know. We have a few candidates already - people who are regulars on here and show the kind of qualities we are after - but nothing is decided yet. So here's what we are asking - please post as many of the latest upcoming news stories relating to new game releases, industry reports, sales news, screenshots and so on in the news section. It takes literally seconds to post a story. Then, to help us get the site around even more and build a reputation, help us post articles on sites such as digg and del.icio.us - again this takes mere seconds. We really want to build a strong, thriving community here on vgcharts. Already we have industry guys from Sony and Nintendo signed up to the site (emails @nintendo.com and @sony.co.jp) as well as a lot of interest from the general industry and media and at the end of the day it is you guys who are helping. We have, in my opinion, the best gaming forums on the net - i don't think we've had one instance yet where we needed to ban anybody or step into a thread. All conversations have been mature, informational and a joy to read - we are lucky to have build up such a great group already. Help us to spread the word, attract the right sort of people (tech-savvy, industry-watching gamers, not the sort of stupid fanboys you get on other sites) and make vgcharts the kind of site you all want. Thanks !!

diamuerto - you beat me. I would like to see some sort of moderation. However as things are now it's not really needed however if a problem happens, nothing can really be done. There have been instances people have been banned. And your news system needs to be more exclusive. :)

There have been a couple of users that have been annoying, some spam etc - but you guys have all handled it. There hasn't been the need for any heavy-handed moderation, yet. That said, as well as myself and broshnat (who rarely uses the boards but works on all the data for the site) we need at least two more people to join us as mods - a process we are looking into at present. The point was that we are suprised and pleased so far that despite the inflammatory nature of the material on the site and people arguing over their system of choice, most coversations have been reasonably clean and well argued to date. Which is why we are here in my opinion to have some good debates. Kwaad - currently if a problem happens then I will step in if required. Of course I don't have time to read every single thread so once the messaging system is up and running please send me one if you feel anybody is playing foul. As for the news - what do you mean by it must be excusive?

Lately the forums have been getting off topic, and people are just insulting each other. I guess it won't last long though.

Well I think a certain someone is to blame for that and they are on thin ice. It would be good if we got back to gaming in some of these gaming threads though people!

Well I am posting a thread that is labeled as non-game related. Well it dosent say that specifically, but it says nothing about games. Why I am useing it. My example of grammar was a pun at all 3 or 4 of the guys doing the grammar garbage. And as for a moderator. I have been a moderator on multipule things in the past. One game I built. A hacker ruined that for everyone tho. (I had ~50 people online at peak times. it was a online MUD) I was a member of volunteer customer service for a large scale MMO. I cant say it's name because of the agreement. I tend to put on a different face when it comes to... official business. But I can think of 2 people who SHOULD have been banned. Posted a thread about a scam. Not related to members of the forum, and not related to games.

That grammar argument was brutal. It should not have happened. I don't blame anybody, but that was what I was talking about before. It had nothing to do with games.

Their only posts were defending it NOT being a scam. (they didn't do a good job) Agreed, but then they haven't come back and posted again so they got the message from you guys that it wasn't appreciated. I'm not saying we won't ban people and that we don't have rules, but so far the forum seems to do a good job of moderating itself in most instances, which is great for us.

Can I be a mod?
