I have the same problem with the R2 on my Sixaxis.

I blame Warhawk

me as well. That damn R2 button just goes off randomly. I hate to say it, but the 360's triggers are much better.

I was playing Dead space yesterday, and I keep stomping the ground accidentally.  ... Pretty annoying.

Ha. They were like that the day they rolled off the assembly line.

Sony definitely could have made other changes to the PS3 controller, even before they were legally obligated to remove dual shock until they retroactively re-installed it a year later.

The overhanging R2/L2 buttons that tend to depress when set down: mold shoulder button hoods in the lower half of the controller.

Make the trigger buttons concave rather than convex although I think that was probably an instance of choosing form over function.

Smooth trigger buttons match the lines of the controller, but most seem to prefer concave buttons that provide better leverage/grip and feel a bit more trigger-like.

And yes, the trigger buttons are too mushy, even when brand new, moreso when compared with the springy 360 trigger buttons.

Sorry man... I've played all the way through dozens of PS1, PS2 and PS3 games... neither one of my two primary controllers (I have 5, but honestly I only use 2 unless friends are over) has even so much as missed a button press, and those dozens of games have included just about every action title (read: button-masher) ever made.

Sony controllers are rock solid. My WaveBird is also solid. I will shed a tear the day it goes bad on me, since I can't get another new one. My 360 controllers are also holding up nicely. I have to say that, in my hundreds of games (you read that right -- its part my job), and tens of thousands of gaming hours, I have only lost a couple controllers ever (some cruddy PC gamepads/joysticks).

First-party controllers are usually made to last. ...but you do have to treat them well. No offense intended, but I think I know what your problem might be. If you buy a MadCatz or Pelican, etc... well.. you're asking for it. You get what you pay for.

Wow, I've had 2 PS2 controllers and 3 PS3 controllers and I only ever had one "break." Basically, the R2 button on my PS2 controller got a bit loose so I could pop it out of place a bit.

I've seen all of these problems from dudes that press to hard on buttons, and swirl the analog while pressing it down like a mad man during special game events. You sure you're not putting to much pressure on the piece of tech???

4 ≈ One

i've had the problem with the analog sticks. Not the R2 thing though

I've had a 1 PS1 and 1 PS2 controllers fail on me, the PS1 from getting stepped on (my fault) and the PS2 from years of use (only controller since 2004, used on average 5 hours a week)

Kickin' Those Games Old School.       -       201 Beaten Games And Counting

I have a DS3 and original SIXAXIS from launch, both work fine, the sticks are still good and the R and L buttons are still pretty tight, perhaps if you took it a little easier on the controllers, I'm sure you'd have the same problem with any other game controller.

Whether you want to admit it or not those controllers are pretty tough, so you must be unusually harsh with them to have them break.
