Forums - Nintendo - Do you expect the next Wii to get the 'main, big' 3rd party titles en masse?

no.

it will be new IPs, that are too risky to put on HD consoles, we may see a few hidden gems along the way

wii doesn't have the highest market share, PC+ps360 is bigger, graphically great and and more cost effective.

Yes it will because the next Wii will be high def and Microsoft and Sony won't have that advantage over them anymore. Also everyone knows that Nintendo's next system will sell. When the Wii came out many developers were scared that they'd lose money if they made games for it.

@ Jo21. The Wii will have the highest market share soon so that argument isn't valid.

Yes, is almost common sense, if the wiitoo ends up in a nice price/performance place (like the gamecube) most devs will launch a game for it...

If you don't feel like reading the OP, why respond? It was about next gen.

And you're wrong, devs ARE putting major franchises on Wii. Monster Hunter,  Tales, Tenchu as exclusives (sure not the biggest ones, but we'll see some of those in the near future) and Guitar Hero, Call of Duty as multiplat with a good Wii version.
Add to that that most of the Japanese niche games will be on Wii and you have a very good library.

^^ Name me a 3 story driven wii games where the narrative stands up to movies or books and I'll concede it was a joke.

Name me 3 HD games that literely critics would find good stories that hold up to strong and well written novels. Not stories that gamers find interesting becuase of gamer attention span. :)

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

monster hunter its huge in japan, but tales and tenchu are not big.

are not as big as Resident evil 5, FF13, Versus, GTA4, DMC4, Star Ocean 4 etc.

guitar hero always been multiplatform, ps2 even gets its version, hell even the DS. same goes for call of duty.

I don't think that the "next Wii" will get the bulk of support, but I expect more balance in the next generation. The only reason it's taking so long this time around is because NO ONE expected Nintendo to dominate like this.

John Lucas did.

I think Nintendo's biggest problem is that they fail to realise what has changed between NES/SNES to N64/Gamecube/Wii.

Hardware from Nintendo has always been comparable to those of it's opposition, the difference was that Nintendo was a monster in the NES and SNES era, blowing away the competition, what it didn't realise was that when the N64 rolled around, it wasn't the only viable platform anymore.

I won't bore you with the details of history, but as we all know, Nintendo got bitch slapped for two generations.

If anything this generation shows, is that market leader doesn't necessarily denote 3rd party haven. I'm not necessarily talking about the Wii either, the Playstation 3 was tipped to carry on what the PS1 established and what the PS2 brought to the next level.

From that, we can all assume that alot of developers had projects lined up for the PS3, but where are they? I'll tell you where, they're on the 360, exclusive or otherwise. Money talks, and when Sony failed to realise that Microsoft was pushing the software front, they lost ALOT of games (in terms of exclusivity).

There is no way in hell Bioshock, Mass Effect, Tales of Vesperia, GTA4 and all the other AAA titles that have either been 360 exclusive or multiplat weren't in development before the 360 landed. I mean sure, Rockstar, Irrational and Bioware are good, but they aren't that quick. That must mean that MS stepped in, between generations, to acquire their services.

Why isn't Nintendo getting these games? because whilst it may be the frontrunner now, when this gen started and all these big titles were in development, they had very little going for them. Problem with being in the lead now, is that Sony and Microsoft are now pushing the money-sack towards developers to make games for them (exclusively or to break exclusivity), so the market leader is no longer the only viable platform for profitability.

That's why unless Nintendo starts bidding, they won't as much 3rd party love as the PS2, PS1, SNES, NES, GBA and DS got.

That's not to say they won't get any at all (I mean, Microsoft and Sony are smart companies, they won't buy ALL established franchises) but I doubt we'll see flagship titles from companies (i.e Capcom = Street fighter or RE, Konami = Castlevania or MGS, S-E = main series FF).

tuoyo i love when you just jump in to other peoples arguments like that, and insult people.

Pray tell who did I insult?  If I insulted anyone it was Sony.

I was just joking tuoyo, you need to be more calm!

you said to me "you are kidding yourself" which is what i said in the previous post. So i just overexaggerted that it was an attack.

but it is true that sony and ms need to be different from nintendo, and that your envisioning of a 3 sub 300$ console world is not going to happen. They all need to differentiate themselves, which is why we have seen so much copying of benefits so that the gap is closed between systems. Sony's PSN and trophies are exactly what i'm talking about here.

If anything, the best thing nintendo could do, is really outdo sony and MS (hardware wise) and sell the next wii at a loss and completely destroy the sony and ms market. The have more than enough money to pull that off.
