Forums - Nintendo - Do you expect the next Wii to get the 'main, big' 3rd party titles en masse?

The Wii was not first (in fact it was last by 2-3 days) and is following the GameCube.

The two were released on the same weekend, with the PS3 on the Friday and Wii on the Sunday.  Ah, I remember that weekend--what an awesome blip in gaming history...

Silly American. PS3 was released in Japan 2 weeks before America.

Possibly not. Third Parties seem stuck in the stereotype that apart from kiddie games only Nintendo games sell on Nintendo consoles.

I take offense to that insinuation!  My pet beaver and I are very happy in our igloo.  So thanks a lot, eh?

Anyway, in Canada, I distinctly remember them getting released within two days of each other.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

I think you'll start seeing big "sequels" on the Wii this generation. But, it appears companies are looking at the Wii as a system for new ideas.

...I think this is why we are seeing companies step outside the box of products they normally produce. High Voltage being one, for example, and Hudson Soft being another.

This is actually why I think this holiday season is more important then previous ones this generation, as the PS/360 have showed pushing out their big guns.

If the Wii is to go the way of the DS then 2009 and beyond will be MAJOR.

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

As the Wii becomes more dominant, is it inevitable that publishers will spend more money on major titles for the Wii, which is the first step toward improving quality.

In order to justify more money spent, one of the big things the Wii needs to do is to obtain enough marketshare to make the PS2 (not PS3 -- the PS2) no longer viable for cross-platform development. I would go as far to say that, at this point, the PS2's continued existance, in huge numbers, is the only thing holding 3rd parties back from making decent games on the Wii at all. Instead of dumbing down games for the PS2, they could be making Wii exclusives... but aren't.

I would say that the Wii needs to obtain something close to 55% marketshare (very doable), and a raw 60M units in existance (to make the PS2 significantly less effective for cross platform appeal -- probably not until late next year). I think that the 3rd party publishers are already beginning to realize that the Wii is likely to meet these criteria sometime late next year, and are starting to look at spending more money on Wii exclusives -- and thus, better quality titles... in a year or so.

Silly Brit. Both of you are incorrect. The PS3 (in Japan) launched eight days before the Wii (in America).

Don't spin this into a "two weeks of sales tracking" argument!!!

Silly Rol, don't mettle in their affairs, let their boots get muddy on their own!

I was going to put American/Canadian, but didn't because however often American is used solely for USA residents only, I use it like you would use European.

And in the UK, I distinctly remember there being a number of months between their releases, but I was talking worldwide.

@Rol. It still is more than 1 week between the releases, so it falls 2 weeks apart.

No, because wii owners do not buy deep, story driven games but mostly shallow, mindless fun. The good games will stay on the systems that appreciate it, where real gamers are actually interested in more than just passing/wasting their time or having mindless fun.

^^ Name me a 3 story driven wii games where the narrative stands up to movies or books and I'll concede it was a joke.

There is one problem.
If you release a wii version of a big name game, it clearly spells out the difference between the power of the systems and becomes a negative for prospective wii buyers.
