Yes, and then you come in and bitch about it.
And now you're complaining about those who complain when you do it.
Who's the hypocrite now?

| akuma587 said: Way to troll RolStoppable. Glad to see someone is filling GBallZack's shoes. In any case, I don't think the PS2 argument that someone proposed holds water here. Isn't the argument people make for the Wii is that the tech is easy to use because it is familiar architecture? The PS2 was cutting edge when it came out, not at the end of the generation, but it was when it came out at least by console standards. I don't see any excuse considering this is a first party game. This game should look better than this. It doesn't look terrible or anything, but it isn't up to par. It's not like the devs need as much time as they normally would to flesh out the system. I think Nintendo just put their Tier 2 people on this game. They have a finite number of developers, which I understand, but the fact of the matter is that this game looks worse than some GC games, although the Wii is supposedly more powerful than the original Xbox. The casuals the game is aimed at won't really complain, but I expect more out of Nintendo.

The problem is few third parties are really all that familiar with the Gamecube's hardware. You can count the ones that actually delved into the GC's hardware on one hand. Capcom, Sega (Amusement Vision), Namco, Rare (now with MS), and Factor 5 (Now with Sony).
Most other third parties only produced second rate ports on the Gamecube. Ubisoft's Splinter Cell ports were a prime example of this. Instead of basing the GC version off of the X-box game. They had Ubisoft Shangai slap together rushed port based on the PS2 build. Sega disbanded Amusement Vision and they were behind F-Zero GX. Rareware is the property of MS. Factor 5's Rogue Squadron games were the most impressive games of the generation from a technical standpoint, but they are working exclusively on PS3. The talent that made RE4 and Viewtiful Joe for Capcom now works at SEEDs. Monolith which produced the Baten Kaitos games for Namco are now owned by Nintendo. Outside of the team that worked on Tales of Symphonia for Namco, which looked good with the exception of the overworld, I can't think of any third party development team that has done any real work on the GC hardware.
In other words, I view the third party developers "familiarity" with the Wii architecture as suspect. Outside of the ones I listed, I can't think of any third party developer that developed a game engine from the ground up on Gamecube. I certainly could have missed a few but I don't think that I have.
EDIT: I am going to make this into a seperate thread.

The game really does look worse than several Gamecube games I can think of (Smash Bros. and RE4 off the top of my head), particularly because it is a first party title (isn't it?). I agree that nobody would have complained if people would have dissected a PS3 or a 360 game. The 50% GC comment was a bit much, but it does look noticeably worse than the best GC graphics I have seen. In any case, the game could be interesting as long as it doesn't get repetitive. I like games that are relaxing (I loved flOw to death). I don't think I would pay $50 for it though. $40 would be acceptable, $30 is a good number for what I have seen. |
No.
It takes all of 10 seconds to determine that this game is developed by "Arika", which appears to be a smallish development house based from former capcom developers that have produced a horde of Street Fighter and Tetris clones.
The game is published by Nintendo, which I assume makes it second party? I never really got the distinction between first and second party. Anyway, for a small time developer they really made the game look good. Don't use the above sea sections to judge it's clear that the resources went into the under water bits as that's where the main part of the game is.

Tokyo Game Show, that's when we will see Afrika again. Also White Knight Story among lots of other Sony stuff.
I don't get it. While I don't like someone coming into this thread to criticize the graphics (this game is a Wii game and it's not supposed to be a graphical showpiece), I also don't get how the same guy who came into an Uncharted thread and said it looked last gen can complain about someone crapping on the graphics of this game.
Also, Mario Galaxy looks great and that is exactly the look Nintendo should go for with Zelda too because the more stylized and far from realistic looking the game is, the better it will look compared to games on the other two systems.
Bring back the Wind Waker look for Zelda to the Wii, don't just relegate it to the DS.
I should start one of those sad online petitions....

Stylized = "Child friendly" you mean?
Wind Waker was fine and all but I have no problem with Nintendo taking franchises like Zelda in newer more mature directions. I realize gamers like yourself personally want to see the gap between the demographic appeal of Nintendo games and "Hardcore" games remain as wide a margin as possible so you can still enjoy the Nintendo games but not see them as a threat to your prefered hardcore titles, but please don't make it so transparent.

I still expect more out of this game because it is being published by Nintendo. 2nd party devs usually get much more attention than 3rd parties, so my argument still stands.
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke
It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...." Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Well, I've gotten PMs from certin mods I will not list, about idiots saying I am trolling, when I post a 100% legit post, that wasnt in a single way trolling. I just have a fan club. And dont think I'm the lone ranger, there are posts in here, about people saying you stepped out of bounds as well. You wanna get in a pissing contest, I'll probibally win.
Speaking of peeing, if you ever wanna take me up on that, I know of a nice creek with fish we could aim for! Since this is a... aquatic related thread.

Wow, now that's some serious word twisting. I'd also like to see Zelda grow even darker, and like the current path the series is taking (OOT, MM, TP), but come on...
Besides, what he said is perfectly logical. Stylised graphics (not necessarily kiddie, by the way - Okami isn't kiddie at all, neither is No More Heroes) will always help a less powerful system. Knowing the graphical capabilities of your hardware, and choosing an adequate style for it, is a great way to get impressive graphics on a less powerful system.
I've watched three gameplay footages along with CMs at the Japanese Wii site. It seemed pretty relaxing. I liked its music and graphics:

I wonder how big the underwater world is. I hope its total playtime and replayability are decent enough to consider purchase.
I've read that it's coming to America at the end of October. This game theme suits a summer release date but then again it may be fun to play it with your family during thanksgiving.
