Well now, here's something that came out of nowhere. Yesterday, someone at the PSPGen forums discovered a system recovery menu for the PS3. The French PS3 owner who made the discovery stumbled upon it after messing up his installation of Linux on FW 2.50. Here's his video (most of it is Linux stuff, but it's only towards the end where you actually get to see the recovery menu):

• Place your PS3 in STANDBY mode
• Hold the power button until you hear 2 beeps.
• If it goes into the video reset setting then you messed up, and do it again till you hear a double beep.

This will mean anyone can now repair software failures themselves. This should save Sony a lot of repair and shippingcosts (even at the low returnrates we are speaking of thens of thousands that malfunction in that way) and consumers a lot of time.

Very good. Less trouble for you and less trouble for the Sony support :).

Dang, I could've used this with my launch 60gig that died about 7 monts after I bought it. Oh well.

wish the writing on the options bit at the end was in english or someone could translate it all for me (3:40-4:00)

Read this on The Playstation Forum yesterday. I like this move.

The first part you looked at was just some guy fumbling around in Linux, so pay no attention to it.

This is usefull when you for some reason have your bootmenu crash on you. Think of the few confirmed cases that had issues with the 2.40 update. If this happens with the 2.51 update for example, you could always reset your console to the 2.50 firmware. It basicly eliminates the need for consumers to return their PS3 for those types of issues and saves the consumer a long wait for their PS3 to return.
