so when people say "what about the terrible core gameplay?" they have an excuse and they can say they were only talking about the fabulous grapics and novel level editor

I played this game for an hour trying to give it a fair chance and spent another 2 with the level creator, but the core gameplay mechanics are just aweful, unless they allow heavy modification of the core gameplay the user created content will never take over the world as they said, it only has an illusion of freedom,

The gameplay isn't anywhere near Super Mario Bros 3, Kirby's Adventure or Sonic and Knuckles,

the gameplay is even up to snuff with the original Rayman. It is closer to Zool in feel,

If this game had been during the 16 bit era without the show visuals it would have been written as a generic platformer with medicore mechanics and a level editor

Once the illusion of freedom dissapates this game will be rememberred for what it is an really pretty, but really medicore platformer,

Oh noes. Someone said something bad about LBP. Better run and hide before you're eaten alive by a horde of Sonyboys with their fingers in their ears.

Also, everyone should give that Eurogamer review a read - especially the last page, where the reviewer talks about the shortcomings of the level editor.

Yeah I know the internet is serious business, and LBP and Resistence 2 are the 2 sacred cows of the SDF, though to be fair I think Resistence looks like it will be a great game

, I really hope people don't give little big planet  a free ride because it seems overwhelming interms of possibilities, because it isn't

It is a game with loads of short comings, the level editor isn't a box a crayons and a clean sheet of paper, and the gameplay isn't very good, they need to demand that media molecule delivery the option in the level editor to make it incredible,  it needs to allow heavy alterring of the core mechanics, as they are much, much to limited, they need more than just grab things and slapping other players, and the jumping phyics are just plain terrible, floaty jumps that wouldn't have flown on an atari lynx game

as far as I can tell maybe a platforming puzzler and a platforming racer can be made out of the level editor, but not much more, If this game is to actually shine it needs a whole lot of work.

I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!

NOW A PUNISHER CAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You could give me a platformer with tight controls, A+ fun factor, involving super realistic hot naked chicks, and then give me 100,000 dollars and I still would not find it better than any 2D Mario game. This thread fails.

Besides, who the hell has heard of gameplayer anyways.

Best platformer ever? This is the type of hype that a game can't possibly live up to and the type of hype that eventually hurts a game. When it comes out and isn't the be all end all of human existence people are going to ask what the big deal was about and say it sucks even if it's a really, really good game. I actually think that LBP will be a very good game but the amount of hype it's getting is ridiculously out of control.

It already lived up to most of its hype - see the reviews and beta impressions.

Best platformer ever?  You're going to put it above every platformer ever made?  I understand that the game looks very good but saying that it's the best platformer ever is a bit much.

1. Pounce on the only negative information about LBP in the thread.

2. Make a sweeping statement about Sonyfans.

3. Recommend others give the negative press of LBP a read.

Tone down on the fanboyism a bit. It's just annoying.

Best platformer ever? nah, my love's for the Mario games. But it lived up to being nearly limitless in creation, to people sharing levels, to being easy to understand and create, intuitive, and most importantly, very fun.

see i can vouch for him on this i was ripped to shred for trying to bring up a point about how sony was more concerned about marketing the level creator then they were teh actual game to a market that might be scared away by that much freedom..it wasnt pretty
