It depends, but usually no. I'll go off of reviews way before I would go off of sales. Sometimes both are wrong. Xenosaga II is a perfect example. I absolutely love the game and liked most of the things the reviewers didn't. People complained about it being too complex and difficult, but it was extremely well done compared to the watered down, but still good, combat system of the 3rd installment.

Silent Hill 4 is another good example. Extremely creepy, more visceral feel, and an engaging story that got back to the series' roots a la Silent Hill 1 and 2.

Both examples I gave were established franchises, and I can't think of a gamble on a new franchise I have taken where the reviewers/sales didn't like it but I did. I am sure there is one, Disgaea maybe, but I never checked the scores or the sales cause I saw my friend playing it and loved it to death. So I guess to answer the question, no.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Sales don't make me purchase a system, but they can make me NOT purchase a system. My game purchases are NEVER influenced by sales, but rather by a combination of the respect I have for the company who makes the software, reviews of the software, genre of the software, and past personal experience with the series in question.

Sometimes yes. For instance, If a game I know nothing about is selling uber well and catches my attention, I might just go out and buy it to try it out.

However, something like this doesn't happen too ofen.

For instance too... I am sure many potential PS3 buyers may be put off because of bad sales... why is it not selling well... is there something wronge with it... will it have good future support because it's going oh so wrong???

Hope this helps.

It's me...  no really, it IS me!!!

Sales lead to support, support leads to games games lead to me buying system

Buying something cos someone else did is retarded.

The problem w/ games today is that people are so dependent on formulaic reviews and a clone mentality that people miss soooo much great niche stuff. It's no secret why it's like 2% of all games releasing making 70% of the overall profits or whatever.

Odin Sphere is an example -- of course it will get a much worse review than like a Final Fantasy, because on paper FF has better production value, an established formula, etc. But Sphere takes a lot of risks and isn't like anything I've seen in a long time, which doesn't get reflected in a review sheet, and I'd recommend it despite faults to any RPG/2-D fan.

It's not wrong to like popular stuff or anything, if that's all you go by you miss out on great experiences that deserve to be played, and are probably a lot more interesting than the next EA title/Halo clone down the pipe. You have to use your own brain, don't let everyone make up your mind for you.

I'd say no considering I pretty much hate the genres of all the top selling games out there recently (racing, sports, & GTA/sandbox). But if a game I was on the fence about sells really well, I might jump over the fence. Generally, I'd look at reviews once the game was out to decide more so than the sales.

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

No, I buy the game if its good just look at daxter. Or did that game sell well?

Dude, it's wierd that you would consider buying games based on their sales. Isn't gaming about buying and playing the games you like?
