Forums - Sony - I don't see MUCH momentum in PS3 sales even after the price cut

This may just be me, but I'm not really seeing the problem with the loss of the emotion engine. The 80GB will get firmware updates that allow full backwards playback, and they've already begun implementing it. Sure, it's a bit slower than usual, but it cuts production costs and the firmware will eventually fix it.

ALSO, it seems like most of you got rid of your PS2 (assuming you had one like most people) or something like that. When I purchase the new 80GB SKU, and this is the bundle I've held off buying a PS3 for, im not going to jam my PS2 in the closet and forget about it. I'll probably move it to another TV in the house and break out the PS2 games and use that TV when i want to play the PS2.

So, i'm just not seeing the problem with the loss of the motion engine.

Ask me how to turn a Rottweiler in to a Dodongo and I'll tell you the story of a lifetime.

If it fails to outsell the supply restricted Wii even when it spikes the momentum of PS3 is almost irrelevant.

Grow up and stop trolling.

I think there is momentum here, yes, but not that much still.

I was really annoyed last week when all the Sony fans claimed the PS3 was selling out and it sold better than bread and water (and coke, which sells obviously better than water ever will) and now we have sales in the 40k range. Awesome. Was it really worth all that stuff?

I don´t think so. And of course, the sales will decline a bit next week. I guess between 35-40k just about what the 360 sells.

500 really isn't that big a draw over 600 dollars, it may seem pessimistic but I don't see the Ps3's upward trend continuing, not for very long anyway, I'm pretty sure its something that can only decline once more after a certain point.

I've got a UK PS3 with no Emotion chip, and i can play PS1 and PS2 games on it. ok, some of the later PS2 games have a few glitches, but nothing serious to worry about. When i first bought my UK PS3 my mates with 360s told me that the backwards compatibility would be rubbish. I can assure you its not. I’ve even noticed compatibility getting better with the firmware updates.  I’m playing Killzone at the moment (bought it cos I want to play it before KZ2 comes out) and it works fine, sometimes a little grainy and it doesn’t always handle great – but apparently they were problems with it originally!

Get a PS3 and play your PS2 games on it – no problem, even without the chip. Go out an buy PS2 games for your PS3, will keep you entertained until some more AAA titles come out.

What were the other titles?

On topic I don't think this was the best time to do the price cut so they shouldn't expect much momentum. They just showed at E3 most of the reasons to get a PS3 won't be released until at least 08'. Add that to the way they've been removing and replacing their SKU's people will most likely continue to wait.

This coming week will be telling of whether or not the effect is real or a more impulsive bounce. Momentum is not the right word for this yet. A real sales momentum will last over the course of months, not over the course of one week. That said, the PS3 did get a good deal more sales than usual (with the 360 performing pretty pitifully) this week. The Wii didn't suffer at all, and actually sold more than last week.

We'll have to see over the course of the next few weeks if the trend is lasting or fleeting.

Yeah, well, Soriku thread.

The one they are discontinuing in USA is known as the 'Premium Version' in Europe!!
I know I'd be pretty pissed off if I thought in a few months time the next one they call the 'Premium pack' was the same price as the inferior one I just purchased!

Much like I'm pissed off that I paid Microsoft directly for a 3 year extended warranty on my son's Xbox360 which is now free for everyone!

I wouldn't really say the PS3 has momentum right now. We'll see in a few more weeks is it can sustain this sales surge. It's more like a fad right now. :P Hey you know who has momentum. The Wii!
