I hope it's not gonna be very expensive like the cell for this generation
I hope it's not gonna be very expensive like the cell for this generation
These threads are funny. Ken Kuteragi showed a slide all the way back before the PS3 came out about how they expected to have a updated Cell for PS3 by 2012 - 2013. They should be using a Cell cluster on the PS4. It would be like having 4 of the PS3's cells on one chip. If Sony sticks to this plan, I think developers will love the PS4. I mean it would be nice for Sony to at least stick with the same programming once in the console history. I would be pissed if i had to relearn every 6 years how to programm.
In other news Sony plans to use a mirco cell in the next PSP. From documents created in 2005 my sources have learned that this new PSP Cell will have 1 core with 4 SPE's. Now go ahead and get that truth going around the internet. Oh and the next PSP is looking at a late 09 early 2010 release.

So, the devs for most of this gen dislike to work with such architecture, and if the PS4 comes with 4 of those, dev would love it??
Looks like you don´t know the pain of multithreading :S

Who says devs dislike the architecture? Devs at the beggining hated having to learn how to use it, but most have come to enjoy the possibilities it presents. In any case whether they like it or not the devs will have to live with multicore/ multithreading. The future of all CPU's is going in that direction.

Most of devs outside the one inside Sonys house are not quite happy with the arch at launch, have you ever hear about Valve, ID4, Factor 5, etc???
The only ones making good comments about it, are the Sony´s second parties, or devs with a future game on the console.
And no, this is not the future :)
i remember reading a story way back in 2000 when hitachi produced a new version of the SH4 and Dreamcast fan sites had ppl swooning over how this could be the next generation chipset for the DC2... lets get real here..4 years is a long time.. for all we know SONY might drop the cell all together and we could be using intel's larrabee
hold ur horses on this one...
Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

I don´t have any hopes for Inter either (But I have high hopes for GPTask on Larrabee)...
@FJ-Warez: Sure now, perhaps, but working on it difficulties are solved as time goes by. Development tool get better too. So if after 6 years working on it you tell developers they won't have to start again from scratch, but their experience will be preserved and still be useful and will help them having a less tiring work, I don't think they'll be pissed.
