Forums - Sales - Prices of controllers

There is an adapter for the 360 that lets you use PS2 and Xbox controllers as well as mouse and keyboard. That is another cheaper alternative.

Blacksaber - why would a simple statement of facts make you mad?

You buy 3 extra controllers because the single player gameplay depth is missing from a lot of Wii games and playing with a friend is the only way they are fun. (wii play, wii sports, mario party, rayman 1&2, etc)

The point is the total cost of getting up and running. Trying to add the cost of the TV to the PS3? Thats just silly and pretty much tells me you see nothing wrong with my point so you will try to move the argument to something else.

Think of it as the cost to mom & dad buying a gift for their son. If they just get their son a Wii and leave him with only the 1 included controller and Wii Play - is he going to be happy? Or is he heading to Best Buy to buy the rest of the stuff he needs for when he invites his friends over to play? If you get him a PS3 and Uncharted and he wont leave his room for a couple days.

Add Mario Galaxy, 2 wavebirds ($60) and Mario Kart and he will be.

(Look I have two great games, four controllers, and a couple of party games to your one. For the same price!)

Yet another one of these threads where someone tries to prove that the Wii sells the most even though it is the most expensive current gen system.

We do have people waking up from 2006 once a while.

I don't think you know what the word fact means.

That many games for the wii are multiplayer doesn't make it a fact that you need multiple wiimotes. That you don't like the single player games on the wii doesn't make it a fact that wii can't be played single player. (for the first year I owned my wii playing it anything but single player was rare)

What is a fact is that the only thing you need to run a wii that isn't in the console box is a tv. What is a fact is that you are comparing an optimized set up for a wii to a base set up for a PS3.  Why does your fictious child care about having wiimotes for all of his friends, but doesn't mind playing his PS3 on a tiny standard def tv in his room? (plenty of party games, including the two you have given him, allow hot swapping)

As others have noted, what is really absurd about wii-haters who take this angle is that if you argue that the wii costs more money than the HD consoles, you call into question virtually every other argument that wii-haters make about the wii. If the wii is the most expensive console, and is the runaway market leader then you might as well be saying that it is the best console.

Outrageous prices! At least the PS3 controller is DualShock now though.

You think that's bad, in Oz a Dualshock 3 goes for $99, which is over US$80. Don't know about the other two, but they're probably proportionately just as bad.

Games machines owned: C64*, NES, SNES*, PS1, PS2*, PS3* (*still own).

please note that I am not a Wii hater, I actually bought one for my daughter. And have enjoyed a few games on it.

And I am not talking about an optimized setup, I am talking about start up costs. You just dont want to admit that 3 controllers are part of the start up costs because it might make the Wii look less awesome or something. You refuse to think about the statement with an open mind. By God if anyone points out anything even remotely negative about the wii they are obvisously a hater and dont know what they are talking about.

You Wii fanboys are sensitive. All the commericals for the Wii have a group of friends playing or a family on the couch playing and you guys act like you multiplayer isnt the focus of the system.

To play the Wii with your friends, its as expensive as a PS3 or XBox. Its really that simple and yes its a fact. (extra controllers are important to the wii and they cost $60 each)

"if you add 3 controllers to a Wii system purchase to play those cool party games it becomes just as expensive as a XBox or PS3 purchase."

that was my original statement - then the wii boys started crying and acting like what I had said was untrue or just plain mocking me like a kid.

Galaki - what does 2006 have to do with anything? Or can you not help trolling and making posts that bring nothing to the conversation?

It is because you are using any argument to prove your point. You are actually adding handicaps to Wii to make your point, putting 3 extra controllers on Wii compared to 1 controller on PS3.

To be actually fair you need to have an EQUAL total of variables across the board.
Wii+3 controllers+game = total
PS3+3 controllers+game = total

You are just making a scenario to fit into your statements. You attack the Wii and then expect no one to respond? A person in this thread attacked the price of PS3 and someone stated why the PS3 controller cost that price (bluetooth, etc.), if you attack anything you should expect a response if its about the Wii or any other system.

I think all these controllers look expensive, Nintendo should add the remote and nunchuck together and make them a little cheaper like cut $10 off then.

It is well known that console makers earn a lot on the controllers they make,
I wonder why the ps3 controller is like 5 bucks more expensive than its 360 counter part, there isn't really any difference

It's sturdier+has a far better D-pad.

I agree on the dpad thing but how is it sturdier ??I've never noticed any difference in that respect

How can you possibly misspell QWERTY? It's spelled correctly on the damn keyboard.

First of all you are assuming that everyone needs to set up for four players. Why four? Why not three or two? That's multiplayer. Does everyone need to be prepared for the max number of players? You don't need to max out the number of players unless you are optimizing. (and as I pointed out before, for the games you are giving the child in your example, only wii sports tennis requires four controllers for four players)

Second, you say that every controller costs $60, meaning that you need not only four wiimotes, but four nunchuks too.  What games are you playing that you must have four nunchuks? You want us to believe that extra controllers for HD consoles are optional because of the strong single player experience, but that four nunchuks are required when there isn't a million seller on the wii that requires this. (there is only one game I have ever heard of that requires this)

Third if you want to use commercials to defend the multiplayer necessity of the wii, then you have to accept the neccesity of an HD tv for the HD consoles because I don't think there is a commercial for an HD console where the screenshots were all 4:3.

Finally, disputing your points is not crying, and if you have been mocked it is because you have repeatedly prefeced your opinion with the insistence that it is indisputable fact. (it also doesn't help that this was the exact argument used in 2006 by many PS3 fanboys to demonstrate that its launch price wasn't really so high)

rayman takes 4 nunchucks.

heck take it down to 3 controllers and its still only a $41 difference between the 2 systems. the other cost we havent discussed on the controllers is batteries. add $30 for every 2 controllers for rechargeables.

The whole point is that the costs of the 2 systems is much closer then most people realize. The responses in this thread have totally backed that up.
