Forums - Sales - X360 price drop $100 bucks off every sku!

I think this is a little wrong.

I like the $100 cut - but not on all models. A core SKU for $199 would be cool, but I think a $249 + game is more realistic.

The timing is wrong as well. Too far from Xmas - you want this annoucement to stick in the mind of all Xmas shoppers. Either just before Halo3 is launched - or my fav - for Thanksgiving day.

...

What I would like to see:

$249 - 360 Core + game (Viva or Scene It)

$349 - 360 Premium + Mass Effect or PGR4

$449 - 360 Elite + Blue Dragon + Bioshock

(something like this would put massive pressure on Sony - God knows what could happen...)

...

Nothing will affect the Wii this Xmas, as it will be in short supply as it is. The battle is squarely between MS & Sony - and the marketshare they can fight for between themselves.

Most likely though, Shams, at $300 for prem, and various prices, then retailers could easily do a $349 bundle w/ game. Most are doing it now for various games, anyways. During post-Christmas, I saw plenty of Xbox 360 Prems + Gears of War for under $399.

Either way, if MS did drop it $100/ea, add a mem card for the X360 Core, that'd just be fantastic. Core consumers would get a great deal, and the 360 would finally be a great price.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

If MS drops the price and adds 65nm, I'd love to see them slap 256MB of flash into the Core. It would cost them virtually nothing and would make the Core a viable alternative to the Pro or Elite.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

MS is still losing money on 360 systems, right? I really don't think they'll drop the CORE to $200, no way. If anything they'll kill it off and lower the Premium by $30-50 or something.

A price cut like this sure would make the Wii360 option very attractive.

They should get rid of the core, and just drop the Premium and Elite price by a $100. Like with the 20Bg PS3 the Cores sales are a low minority of all 360s sold.

People want the best bang for the buck, core is not that.

Hmmm why drop the price before "Falcon"? To sell more RRoD so its sold out or produced more? I think they drop the price with a new hardware revision, which should come soon (September/October) should be possible.

Sorry why drop a console with such a failure rate?

The source is questionable. It references Canada, but gives the prices in USD? And it says 100 across all SKUs, yet the Elite is 399? And didn't the PS3 price get "cut" in Canada, too?

I would assume that the CAD prices were going to drop $100, and maxconsole decided to extrapolate the Canadian information.

About dropping the price before Falcon:

When Falcon launches, I assume there will still be 1.0m to 1.5m consoles that are the old non-Falcon consoles. MS needs to sell these 1.0-1.5m consoles before Falcon becomes embedded in every store, because when Sept-Dec hits, they're going to move the vast majority of consoles. Which would MS prefer, selling a ton of these old non-Falcon consoles that not only cost more, but are more prone to break, or the new, cheaper, better, more reliable Falcon's that make MS more cash 2 ways both with more reliablity (less returns) and cheaper hardware itself.

IMO, that'd make the most sence to MS, to drop the price, liquidate the non-Falcon's, then when Halo and GTAIV hit, have the Falcons at retailers, selling out, and turning a profit for MS, and stopping the hemorraging of console failures, since Falcons *should* fix most of the issues.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I still don't see the price dropping Pre-Halo 3. They won't to make as much profit on Halo 3 as possible before dropping the price, which they will then do right before the holidays in the hopes of stealing some Wii sales. Wow though, almost every major site says Sony is phasing out the 60GB now, meaning there was no price drop at all, just a prolonged sale.
