Way before the PS3 launch Sony claimed to have the capacity to produce 2 Million PS3 systems per month ...

What kind of a surplus do you think they would have to produce before they were forced to stop production (even for a short period of time)?

If for once their marketing does a good job, no reason thats not possible. Fiscal year means March 08 right. So 5.5 million shipped already, 8 months to ship another 5.5.

They should have no trouble selling +3 million in Nov/Dec, lets low guess 2 million in the other months remember this is worldwide.

8/9 million sold to customers, 11 to retailers or shipped whatever. I dont see whats so unlikely about this.

Actually the 11 million total is for the fiscal year, so from 4/1/07 - 3/31/08.

 Yes, but does he mean 11mill BY 3/31/08 overall or 11 million from 4/1/07 to 3/31/08 ?

Your numbers are way too high ...

The PSP sold 402,194 Units in Japan, 1,459,561 in North America and 1,115,237 which (in total) is just under 3 Milllion units. The PSP was selling (for most of 2006) at about twice the rate the PS3 is currently selling at and has continued at that pace in 2007 ..

I totally agree, I think people are just misreading.

There are probably 5.5 million+ PS3 in the channel now (including those sold to consumers and those sold to retailers). Sony needs to push 5.5 million more in the next 9 months -- including Christmas -- to achieve this goal. What's so wierd about that? I suppose they might not reach it, but it certainly isn't an absurd claim.

11 million for the 2008 fiscal year. Total would be 16.5 million since they shipped 5.5 million for the 2007 fiscal year.
