Wii gets revenge on the Xbox360! Beats it on home turf!!!! Seems xbox 360 may have stolen some ps3 customers with price drop?

90k? that's it? even I expeced more.

Hell, I expected the 360 to beat the PS3 by 55k WW and that's without the extreme Japanese numbers that it got.

Blacksaber, Sony fans are fine. They have a soild holiday season infront of them, and '08 has been PS3's best year. And the drop is because - you guessed it - the 360 drop.

Yeah just had no clue what to say since there have been bad reactions from all fans when stuff like this happens.....

Former something....

Yea there has been a lot of adjusting with numbers this week so wouldn't be that surprising. But it does show that the 360 pricedrop was very frontloaded haha as what it did in 1 day was only matched in the next 7. But I guess though sales are necessarily bad.

PS3 is of some concern though. I mean as wii explodes through it all unscathed as usual, PS3 seems to be affected by this. Now it's possible shortages but I got nothing to prove that guess. All and all there isn't much to grab out of this week. Next week will be of more interest, especially for the 360.

To me, the most interesting thing about these numbers are the noticeable drop in PS3 sales witht the increase in 360 sales. It really shows that the two consoles are fighting over the same group, in which case the considerably lower price point might going to hurt the PS3 as well as increasing 360 sales. Sony might want to consider a price cut in the US.

Nintendo on top as normal...

360 moved up as expected...

Playstation world pretty much consistent...

Not much of a shocker here...

In regards to the size of the increase, remember that when the 360 had a price cut last August, there was an immediate surge but it managed to establish as a higher baseline for sales for a month and a half leading up to Halo 3. While there is no Halo 3 this year, it's likely that the price cut will result in a significant and sustained rise in sales (which seems to be the pattern for price cuts in the US, also evidenced by the PS3).

The 360 is cheaper than wii now with more AAA games on metacritic. People really love their motion controls.

My prediction: Next up is M$'s motion controller lol

Well I think your right but I also think this shows just how much the American market has expanded.  I mean it is allowing in September to have almost 300,000 units sold.  I mean 5 yrs ago this wouledn't be probable.  Haha if PS2 had sold 150k in one week Xbox and GC would be splitting 20k haha.

It shows that the Wii is not only competing for those core and normal gamers but how much its expanded outwards from them which is actually in turn good for PS3 and 360 that it has a sustainable amount of potential buyers despite not being the central and mainstream brand.  If 360 or PS3 was on the top, that little outlet wouldn't be open and the other 2 would simply fade out.  Wii, and DS too, has definitely been good for the American market and really European market as well, and also in a probably unwarranted way, for the competition as well.

However I do think that eventually that one brand will push out between PS3 and 360 to the point where the other shows well below average sales.  Can't confirm this but it seems to be how trends work.  And the 2nd place will be able to survive with that not so bad second place rewards in the shadow of Wii.

Mmmm...

360 weakens PS3's sales a bit....

Wonder how long this will last.... I give it 2 more weeks the most....

4 ≈ One

Any ps2 numbers?? Cause I'm guessing they are still high... maybe 10k behind the ps3??

@Xen. I agree the PS3 is respectable now... but saying "2008 has been PS3s best year" sounds a tad odd, I mean there have only been 2 years to look at.

Similarly I can say 2008 has been Wiis best year, and 360s best year (and in fact it looks like DS might manage to best last years record-breaker, and PSP will also have it's best year)

It's a little more meaninful for X360 which has had an extra year, and more so for PSP/DS as they are in their 4th and still bettering themselves... but doesn't mean much for PS3 or Wii.

2008 has been gamings best sales year ever!
