Forums - Gaming - True masterpieces of gaming

Hey guys. In this thead, I would like everyone to list what games they feel are the true masterpieces of gaming, but - Only one game per console. Also, preferrably no current-gen stuff since we don't know what the future may hold for those consoles. Also, don't feel like you have to choose one from every console you've played - I know I won't. Just pick those that you think are a masterful gaming experience for whatever reason. Maybe you think that it's a storytelling masterpiece, or just that the gameplay in itself is masterful. If you don't want to give reasons or stuff like that, don't, but you're welcome to if you want to.

Anyway, let's get started. Here are my choices:

PC - Starcraft (This game kept me hooked on and off for so many years and I still find it magical. Just a perfect RTS.)

SNES - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (A thrilling, yet light-hearted adventure through the lands of Hyrule.)

N64 - Super Mario 64 (Platforming gone 3D - In style. Amazing on all fronts.)

Gamecube - The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (Felt like ALttP but 3D to me. Plus sailing. Which I actually found fun.)

PS2 - Metal Gear Solid 3 (Where can I begin... This game is just beautiful. I think this game is like art, really. Hard to explain, but other fans will probably get what I mean.)

It's too hard for me to decide on just one for the PC but here it goes:

PC - Quake II - I spent so much time playing the multiplayer DM games, I think the map was called Edge. I'm pretty sure it single handedly made me the gamer I am right now.)

PC Honorable Mentions - All Blizzard and Valve Games (starting with Rock and Roll Racing and Blackthorne) - All of them changed gaming for the whole industry, PC or Console, in some way or another. All of them were the pinncles of gaming of their times and they are still better than any other PC or Console game that has come out so far. Only older id games can compare to their greatness.

Famicom - Contra - Before Quake II for me there was Contra. One of my proudest statements as a gamer is that I can beat all of Contra with just those initial 3 lives. Still can.

Famicom Honorable Mentions - Battle Tanks& SMB3 - (not sure the name was battle Tanks but yeah) The tank game I spent endless hours playing with my friend and screwing him over by freezing him when I shot him. And SMB3 was just the most expansive experience of gaming I had ever touched on the Famicom.

SNES - Link to the Past

Gamecube - Metroid Prime - Up until Galaxy and the overblown console titles like GTA IV and the Orange Box its 2nd place as best of the best was very well deserved. It's still #2 in my heart.

N64 - Ocarina of Time - Still #1!

P.S @ Leo-j

You just managed to break just about every rule that the OP put down.

**PC - Star Wars : Knights Of THe Old Republic:**

Well not only is this the best Star Wars game but also THE best WRPG ever made. It translates the mythical star wars lore we all know & love & weaves it into a brilliant RPG!

**SNES - Final Fantasy 6:**

THE best Final Fantasy Period. All the characters were unique & had a very engaging background story. The main character wasn't a stupid bimbo for once....Terra was very cool! Kefka was just a great villain...in each of his scenes he lit the screen up just like Darth VAder!

oh and....the Opera Scene!

**PS1 - Metal Gear Solid 1:**

And so Solid Snakes journey began....at the time it was the most graphically advanced game. The engaging story, music & boss fights --- especially phsycho mantis...I mean in that boss fight you had to literally play around with controller ports -- now THAT was a true nex-gen boss fight.

Oh and ---- Fox.............Die!

**PS2 - Metal Gear Solid 3:**

Before I say anything....OMFG @ THE ENDING! Truly in MGs3 the true winner was its ending.....the tragic culmination of events led to one of the best endings in Gaming history! THis ending will make even Hitler Cry.

Apart from that MGS3 was a great game for introducing big environments such as forests.

****ALSO MGS4 is a masterpiece.....GOING WAY BEYOND ANY OF THOSE MENTIONED ABOVE!*****

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey
