Forums - Sales - Would the Wii be as succesfull with a PS360 ?

The 360 had an early launch compared to the Wii and PS3. At the same time you have to subtract the overlapping sales of the PS3 and 360.

But still, the consumers seemed to like the Wii from the moment it was launched. Had the two companies collaborated to make one super console, Wii probably would still have a small lead.

If this were true I can see the ps360 being on top. All major third party games would be exclusive to one console. Not only that the combination of sony and ms first party titles would make the console a must have day 1. All the hardcore gamers would automatically flock to it. I would also expect this console to launch at around $400 to $500.

A fusion eh???

One single console of $500
With RRoD
Hard and expensive to develop for
Cracking Disks
No rumble
Expensive add ons
Multiples SKUs
Delayed
With very few unit at launch

Yeah, we have a winner here :)

^Also, at the price of $500, it would sell like the Swarovski diamonds of gaming. Heh.

I think most open-minded "hardcore" gamers would simply buy both consoles, Wii and "PS360", so they may enjoy all the best games out there, and have two very complementary experiences on two very different consoles...

And the "casual" crowd would buy Wii anyway, as it's the only console with the kind of interactivity and the kind of games they're really lookin' for, especially for some "family fun"...

It would be great, cos buy two consoles is way easier than buy three, and everybody would have more money to buy more software instead of (very expensive) hardware...

And for the devs, make two versions of a game, or have only two options for exclusives, is an easier choice: the quality of the games would increase (they may "optimize" each game for each console easier), and their profitabilty would increase (they would face two very healthy markets, instead of three "hazardous" ones, at least at the start of the new gen)...

In the current situation, it's already Wii vs PS360 anyway, so the marketshare for Wii would be nearly the same in a two consoles world or in a three consoles world...

Some people buy both 360 and PS3, but most may only afford one... plus the Wii for the open-minded gamers out there... cos Wii is a great first choice, or a perfect second choice, and that's one of the reason of its actual success...

The Wii would have near to 60-70% market share.

If Sony and Microsoft get to team up then Nintendo and Sega get to create some fake system together too. Of course that one would lose to the Wii as well.

^This is what I keep saying.  When someone buy a wii, it´s not a choice like: - Do I buy a wii or a ps3 or a x360? No! The question is do I buy a wii or not? That´s why I think the wii doesn´t compete with the other, it compete with itself, only. That´s because it´s image it´s atached to another type of fun-liked game experience. Most of the top selling games in Wii are fun because of the wii remote and remarkable because of the peculiar Characters. There´s a thread asking if wii owners would buy a ps3 and half said they would, depending on price. Now Ask them why they bought a wii and if they ever thougth of getting another console first. They´ll probably answer that the library and wii remote got their loyalty and that they never thoutgh about getting another one instead. That they entered the stored aiming for a wii. The fact that they consider buying a ps3 or a x360 show that they are open minded and want to experience the game sthat wii can´t provide, but they love wii the most.

Even in this hypothetical scenario Sony and Microsoft wouldn't be able to compete with Nintendo without losing money.

Also, why is this PS360 console only getting the advantages of the real PS3 and 360? If it got Bluray, it wouldn't have released before late 2006, including initial supply problems and high price, giving the Wii a 2m lead by December 31st 2006.

Early PS360 games wouldn't have had the chance to recoup development costs which would have led to 3rd parties delaying games to have a bigger userbase to sell to. Without a consistent flow of games, hardware sales of the PS360 would have been sluggish and the Wii would have pulled farther away.

I am too lazy to continue with this post.

You bring up an excellent point. One of the main reasons the 360 didn't have HD-DVD was that it was cost prohibitive for the 360's 2005 launch. Blu-Ray cost more than HD-DVD. This hypothetical system would have launched in 2006 and without the head start of the 360 would have gotten absolutely steam rolled by the Wii.

Simple PS3/360 would have 52.9% and WII 47.1% took that strait from VG chartz. Combined PS3/360 and took the WII numbers. WII crowd is separate from the PS3/360 crowd they are more casual gamers.

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game
