Forums - Sales - Opening week: Can WKS beat out Microsoft's big 3 JRPGs of 08 (Japan) ?

Will the opening week sales of White Knight Story beat out the combined opening week sales of Tales of Vesperia, Infinte Unidscovery and Last remnant in Japan?

In order for WKS to achieve this feat, it will probably have to get 300-350k in it's opening week, thus making it the 2nd best selling PS3 game in Japan placing it around 120-150k under MGS4's opening week.

Based on Sony's history with big time Japanese releases, I think it's very likely that they will bundle this game.

Here are the sales stats of previous PS3 JP releases and previous 360 JP releases.

I think it has a good possibility. Does anyone know the amount of consoles owned in japan, 360 vs PS3? Based on the PS3 selling 7-8x as many per week, and as big of a market as Japan is for RPG's, it's very feasible. And if they bundle it, it's going to boost PS3 sales in Japan as well..maybe not for good, but for a little while at least. At least until it's determined that it's a good game or not, but regardless Level 5 has lot's of, shall we say, 'Street Cred' in Japan..so I think it has a good chance, but it's not definite.

Whoa combined sales of ToV, IU, and LR? I'm gonna assume LR comes in around ~100k too, like ToV and a bit higher than IU.

For WKS, there's hype, for sure PS3 fans are just dying for rpgs, and it comes from a very respected developer. One thing that does hurt it though, is how late in the holiday season it hits; it doesn't get to enjoy the ramp up leading up to New Years.

Best guess? At most 300k, and more likely 250k range. PS3 has ~4x 360's userbase in japan, but this game is not from an established series like ToV or from SE like IU.

It would be wise for Sony to bundle the game with PS3s as the game is very hyped and would boost PS3 sales in Japan

I think it has a shot, the reason I say this is because it's releasing in December.

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

1. A fanbase about 3.4x bigger than the 360.
2. A fanbase that is JRPG starved.
3. A game that's developed by a premium JRPG dev, Level-5...
4. It's gonna have some serious advertising and hype... the Level-5 event+TGS are coming.
5. Released in December while aimed at January - a big sales period in Japan.

what does that boil up into?

I'll give you a hint: yes.

I think it is very much possible for this game to be a big hit in Japan. If the game turns out AAA it will most definitely crush the sales of the competing system's RPGs. I think it actually might out do MGS4 and TOV sales in Japan.

If this game turns huge, expect a lot more marketing hype from sony for it's american port.

If you look at the screenshots of the game, it seems like WKC is aimed at both the Japan and Western gamers.  I don't think Sony would skimp on marketing if I am correct.
