Metroid Prime was phenomenal, God of War was very good, Halo was decent.

This.

Someone above asked why Halo is an overrated mediocrity. It has mediocre contorl scheme, mediocre story, and sub-par gameplay. There is a reason why the PC version bombed as hard as it did. It brought nothing new to the table other than being readily available and mass marketed like no other game before.

Metroid on the other hand defined its genre, it was polished, well made, and interesting to play through, multiple times even.

God of War also was a lot of fun to play through, but lynch me if you want, it did not have the same feeling of depth and expansiveness that Metroid had. Maybe it was the shorter play through time, I don't know but it just didn't.

I think a small part of that reason may have to do with the fact that it was released 2 years later on the PC.  Considering the fact that it had already sold 6 and a half million on the xbox calling it a bomb only makes you look irrational.

I'm not a huge fan of any of them, but I hate God of War, so I say it's a tie between Halo and Metroid, even though if I wanted to appear respectable in most gamers eyes, I'd obviously say Metroid.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I've said this time and time again: Metroid was an experience I will never forget. Personally, I believe it's a masterpiece.

Halo was excellent, too. I have tons of memories of playing slayer with my brothers.

God of War... let's just say I was never drawn in enough to even finish it.

i thought it said gears of war not god my bad

I tore through God of War and was unimpressed. It did have boobs.

I thought Metroid Prime was awesome, but I really didn't want to give it a second playthrough. The game should be played by everyone, but it really wore me out.

I played Halo 1 Christmas day 2001. Due to it's tremendous hype, I was let down.

-I eventually went back and got all of the sequels to these games. Halo seems to have grown on me the most. Metroid seems to be the best, overall franchise.

........my personal favorite from last gen? Metal Gear Solid 3.

Very strange comparison, especially with God of War but I give the nod to Halo. The multiplayer in it was incredible for the time (on console) and the game's experience was enough to sell millions of Xbox consoles.

Conclusion

Nintendo fans: Metroid
Microsoft fans: Halo
Sony fans: God of war

I might break the trend as i loved GoW more than Halo and Metroid. Actually, i hated both Halo and Metroid xD

Probably the best non-same genre comparison so far, quite hard to decide.

I'm giving it Metroid Prime > Halo >> God of War

Metroid Prime: The first gamecube game I bought when I got a Wii. Such an awesome game (I bought a few weeks before Prime 3 was released) and truly one of the best games on the platform (Gamecube) and up there for all time. Created a genre basically. Mirror's edge would be years away had Metroid Prime not shown First Persons Adventures could work.

Halo: Game defined a console. Enough said. Oh wait, I'll add, it showed an entire industry how a FPS can be done properly on a console. Heck, it's a bloody launch title and it still stands as one of the best achievements in gaming. Metroid Wins on the merits of the game itself (barely) but Halo wins on sheer impact on the industry

God of War: Clearly third, people remember this game because it was a giant middle finger to all those people who were calling for heavy censorship in games back then. Fairly short and gave no reason to replay the game or anything really to extend it's legs. Still, a fantastic game, but it didn't define a genre, really it only has 2 claim to fames, the middle finger to censorship and of course quick time events. Hardly industry changing. EDIT: Actually I should have said hardly industry changing in a GOOD way, seeing as how many games now use quicktime events, but it's not a good change these days.
