Forums - Sales - sony thinks blueray is done for?

"wow sony needs to hire a speech writer or have proxy pr people handle all statments "

Why? because a rabid HD-DVD fanboy wrote up a shill article and spun the original interview so much out of context that its not even representing what Taka Miyama was saying?

If you read the original interview you see that Taka Miyama is totally positive regarding BluRay, he states that BluRay is so good, they can even use it for the future 4k video format because of its awesome stats. And then he said that IF there would be a future format any time in the future it can not be another optical disk, as the tech is maxed out with the bluray tech. The laser's wavelength is as small as you can get it and therefor you can not put more data on the disk as allowed with bluray. A far in the future format would have to use other physics to reach even bigger storage densities.

"Blu-ray is not only finished in terms of spec, but it's also finished as a format. Optical disc technology has gone as far as it can go.

Or so says Take Miyama, Sony product manager for home video marketing in Europe believes. He told Electric Pig that "in the future, if [our emphasis] we have a physical media format, it will change physically. It won't look like an optical disc."

Talk of a 500GB Blu-ray prototype will only prolong the agony.

Sony has already hinted at its future direction with the launch of Bravia TVs in the US that can directly receive movies streamed over the internet. Blu-ray player not required."

His statement is being loaded. He is simply saying that Optical Disc formats have level out, and that the next format wont be Opitical format, ie Blu-Ray is the last Disc based medium.

you and the person that wrote this article then took it and twisted into him saying that Blu-Ray is doooooooomed.

Sad.

Just look at Etech and Halogamer. They just read what is written and dont apply their brains to the interview and look at it in context and run off agreeing with it whole heartedly. Reading Comprehension FTL.

I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

This space Reserved for the Nuggets of Wisdom dropped by Bladeforce:

"Why post something like this when all it will get is PS3 owners blinded to reality replying? BOTH THE PS3 AND BLUE-RAY WILL NOT LAST 3 YEARS! TECHNOLOGY CHANGED TOO FAST!"

"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"

@|_emmiwinks, I think its more just putting spin on it, it may be that i read the news and watch it way to much and am use to seeing this, but sony needs to work on scripting what its future holds and current products have... or just train execs to say no comment, im sure they pay people to deal with the press this was done poorly, and if the press was this guys job he should be reprimanded.

Blu-Ray will be around for a while for a few reasons.
not everyone has high speed internet or even access to it. Direct downloads only cuts the total number of people who can buy the movie, game ect..

1 blu ray disc is, or will be very soon, cheaper than 2 DVD's to manufacture. This doesn't mean anything to the consumer but this is a big deal to the manufacturers.

As with all electronics, the price will drop. It won't be long before you can get a br player for $150.00
