Forums - Sony - How the PS4 is shaping up to be the next generation must-own-console!

I hope they get it out the door closer to Microsoft this time, provided those two will be fighting the same battle with new weapons...
And there is no way they will not have an optical drive, especially as the technology progresses. The blu-ray drives will be better and cheaper, and a harddrive would quickly fill up with the big games taking up a lot of space.

I can't believe that the only thing everyone has picked up on is the drop of BR lol

I don't think Sony will get rid of BR. It would be silly for them to do so especially with BR picking up sales. MS is more likely to drop physical distribution then Sony is. Sony after all distribute films, music and games. They will lose a whole chunk of profits. It is safe to assume BR is here to stay longer then many analysts predict.

Still, lets sign a petition for a incorporated George Foreman grill on the PS4. It's not too late. We should let her stomachs be heard!

ps4 will be lunch between 2012 and 2015 and the ps3 will be dead in 2016,and its 1000x better than the ps3

I heard that the PS5 is going to be even better than the PS4 so just wait for that.

I wouldn't mind a new gen actually, quite soon, this one has been the most boring ever imo. At least so far. You'd think that at least one out of three would've been able to entice with a reason to buy their machine, but no...

^^ Agree, for some reason, the competition hasn't made anyone create better games or better things (other then Sony and they are last this gen). The Wii has too much money to make anything decent with the Wii motion controls. Infact, the PS2 game with 1:1 motion controls looks better then Red Steel 1+2 and more interesting and thats a PS2 game.

I don't think any of the 3 should be allowed to release a new console until they have done this gen justice!

Everything sounds decent except the whole "scratching out Optical Drive" part...

4 ≈ One

BC compatibility is the issue for me. i won´t be picking a ps4 if I gonna lose 20- 30 games plus the psn ones...

I think that the ps3 having been such a money sink while bad does make the ps4 more likely to dominate.

If the ps4 has two or three cells it would still be cheap and a likely candidate for most powerful console next time around. Not to mention helping as far as backward compatability is conncerned.

if the ps4 has blu-ray drive it will be faster(hopefully less need for installs because of read speed) and able to read more than 2 layers. at 25 gb per layer even if they only had 4 layers that would be 100gb. I believe the maximum is 8 layers. Once again since they are already manufacturing the tech it should be cheap as well. Once again helps with backward compatability.

Of course they will probably have another DS controller with decent rumble tech and another pseye even better because Sony makes cameras and I'm sure that tech is improving as well.

Since Sony's 1st party is so big if they plan the software correctly they can really be everything for everyone. Most powerful system, tons of hardcore games (Sony America and Japan) as well as casual(Sony Europe).

I say let Microsoft get all the lead they want. Wait until the time is right and launch with a 299$ monster. I doubt if Microsoft will be able to compete. Nintendo on the other hand probably has an ace up their sleeve.
