Forums - Gaming Discussion - WILL Blu ray go to xbox 720?

You know PSN is available on a SE Mobile phone with Windows Mobile 7...

I have a sneaking suspicion that they're going to use HVD (Holographic Versatile Disk), if they decide to use a new disk at all. HDDVD bit them in the ass.

Edit: Whoops, just saw that someone else mentioned HVD. Well I tried to contribute anyways.

100% yes, without a single shred of doubt. It's a given at this point. Some of you aren't thinking this through very well.

- The Blu-Ray association owns the format, NOT SONY. Hell, even Microsoft gets a small slice out of the Blu-Ray pie as they made one of the codecs or format systems (can't recall details).

- The Xbox was designed to get into peoples' living rooms and has since become an all-in-one device, much like the PS3. To ignore the highest-technology movie format for the living room at this point would be so stupid on an epic proportion that it amazes me some of you are even considering it a possibility.

- Digital distribution? Yeah, that's a great idea. Way to completely kill your console for those who either don't connect it to the Internet or those in developing countries who may not have access. The people in this thread would make for some of the worst market analysts since the guys who brought us New Coke.

- In case you don't pay much attention to the world, Microsoft is the biggest collection of WHORES on the planet. They go where the money is and don't give a rat's ass who they have to pay or steal from to get it. Hell, they even cozy up to Apple whenever it's convenient.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

microsoft could always use HD DVD discs ... it wouldnt cost them as much, and they are still good. I think a dual layer hd dvd disc could reach 30gb or 60gb ... that may be enough ... also it would reduce piracy to a minimum, as there are very few hd dvd burners ... if any

The nintendo before - ' wii release ' <3
Sega before ' Software Only ' <3

Anti M$ (Therefore anti 360) - im making it official ... Go play your meaningless FPS Games ...

the '720' is still way off so its difficult to say.

The issue they face is do they go with Blu-Ray which will probably be the movie format of choice but with BR-Writers available and cheaper media enabling piracy.
Or a proprietary disc which would be hard to pirate.

lol, with all the SSD and flash-memory developments going on that could actually happen.

Ditto.

It's possible. Sony didn't exactly invent the DVD, but the PS2 was the first console to use it, and then other consoles followed suit after it. And yes, I do know that the original XBOX used the DVD as it's disc format, but still. It seems like whenever Sony uses a certain format in their system first, future consoles adapt it. Although Sony could be stingy with how Blu Ray is used by Microsoft, seeing as Sony had a hand in developing the Blu-Ray technology, which they didn't do with the DVD.

I thought about this a while back, and it's highly possible. I mean, if you increase the speeds of the USB hub connectors inside the machine, a developer could release their entire game on a USB travel drive that you insert into the console and play it right off of at a fast frame rate. And you can get high capacity ones for cheaper now, too. The only problem is, most games use about 10 to 20 GB in size normally, and USB drives of the same capacity are still relatively expensive. But once those go down in price soon enough, this could actually happen.

Does anyone think it is a possiblity that Blu Ray will be going to Microfsts next console?

I personally think that it is unrealistic as Microsoft would have to pay Sony Billions to use it.  And from their point of view it would be directly financing their enemy.

Saying that Microsoft could afford it and it is a big advantage Sony has over Microsoft.

How many more times do we have to do this.  Sony do NOT own Blu-Ray.

Did you know that Microsoft earn money from blu-ray sales?  Thought not.
