Better graphics, physics, lightning requires more space.

Anyway, you are defending 15h jrpg like it should be that long? Wow.

Graphics, physics and lighting have nothing to do with the length of a game.  Seriously, stop trolling.  You just suck at it.

Around the Network

so PS3 JRPG :
Valkyria Chronicles: 77,694 First Week, 129,835 LTD

Disagaea 3: 56,441 First Week, 93,227 LTD

considering that, IU first day 70K, is not bad after all. actually it is very good.

Considerign that both are Tactical JRPG, while IU is a traditional JRPG.. yeah, good comparison, lol.

PhalanxCO, you should go to school and learn about gaming developement.

It`s probably that`s why next ID software game will take 2 DVDs on x360, since graphics there sux, lol.

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

70.000 first day in one territory sounds nice to me. Especially on a console that was left for dead in Japan. And with A new IP

Seems MS got the timing of the price drops right in America And Japan. I really think if they can keep the rpgs flowing they are going to go into next gen in such a better position that they did this gen. They really did stumble at launch in Japan, hopefully the launch of the next console will have full rpg support from devs such as Square Enix.

Godot - unsure if you saw my reply in the comment box for Y-Koron's post..

Godot - It's good because it's a smaller, new IP from Tri-Ace.

The closest game I think you could compare IU to would be Radiata Stories. It sold (VGC) around 180,000 first week, and got up to 280,000 before it died.

IU has a decent shot at hitting above 150k, which wouldn't be too bad compared to RS. Not great, but not a disaster.

So I really don't see how it's too bad. IU will open with around 90,000-95,000 which will be half of RS, but should have better legs down the stretch. It should wind up with 150,000-175,000 depending on legs, but I don't think that's horrible for a new IP from Tri Ace x SE.

Yeah you're right that it's not terrible but I won't say it's great either. New IP do not necessarily sell worse than old IP though. Usually, new IP can sell anything between zero and a lot. I just hope this game won't outsell Tales of Vesperia because Tales is a much much better game.

If Infinite Undiscovery sold 70k on the first day, then Tales of Vesperia should have sold 200k on the first day. IU is probably one of the most unpolished, most poorly designed JRPGs I've ever played. I really hope IU is not a precursor to SO4 or Last Remnant.

Anyways, I really hope the Japanese starts accepting the 360 as a viable console. It's really for the good of the japanese videogame industry that the 360 constantly outsells the PS3 in Japan. But I'm afraid, 10k per week sales isn't enough for other 1st parties (PS3) to devote alot of resources to cater to the Japanese Core audience. Right now, Sony and just about every 3rd party is leaving Japanese gaming behind, and Microsoft is picking up all the slack so I think they should be rewarded much more for it.

How is it good for the Japanese gaming industry if an American brand beats a native brand?

Because the Japanese brand (sony) is neglecting the Japanese industry. If the American brand (Microsoft) also neglects the Japanese Industry, the competition (Sony) will never have the urgency or initiative to spend resources to get the attention of the consumers, thus resulting in an overall lack of quality or drive to create quality within the industry.

Microsoft is buying games from the Japanese publishers. Most of those games don't sell enough to recoup the cost of the game. If Microsoft decided to stop buying exclusives from Japanese publishers, they would be screwed. If the Japanese companies really want to help themselves in Japan, it's the Wii, DS and PSP that they should support not the 360.

And you need remedial Logic lessons...

All graphics, physics and lighting do is make your 5 hour game look pretty.  Nothing more, nothing less.  Repeat after me:

"Lack of disk space does not make a game short, development costs and time do."

"Lack of disk space does not make a game short, development costs and time do."

"Lack of disk space does not make a game short, development costs and time do."

"Lack of disk space does not make a game short, development costs and time do."

Now, breathe...

Then isn't that the problem? More space, according to you, means a shorter game because they can add a lot of graphics, physics, lighting, etc. so basically what you said about blu ray automatically making games longer is contradictory to your previous post.

lol.

More space means they can add a lot of graphics AND gameplay, N... .
