@halil: I'm not actually defending it. I'm just looking at it outside personal preferences and try to see what it's all about.
It will sell good without a doubt, no matter how fanboys rant or feel offended.
When Wii Music has sold above 5 million, we read people ranting how it "sells because it's a Nintendo game", the same thing we read about Brain Training, Nintendogs, Wii Fit etc. Or "the casual are buying it" or "the kids are buying it" or anything that you can imagine to attempt to show that it sells because people don't understand what they are buying, instead of people buying it because they like it.
Now "the ultimate videogame" is to offer explanation to its future sales. A lot of people play games without any specific goal in mind, just to have fun, but in most games the required learning curve is too high for people who haven't played any games before. Or focusing on competing or achieving also turns people off because they may not be able to compete or achieve what's required. Wii Music doesn't have those obstacles and the only question is, that is Wii Music able to "pull it off".

Thats what we core gamers are afraid of, thats why we're ranting about Wii music. It makes perfect sense since its also the cries of core gamers when Wii Fit was introduced. BMI isnt really a standard for fitness or health. Wii Fit wasnt even what we call "a game" since theres no challenge to it because even toddlers can do those games like the hulla hoop one and the football thingy. Its also on other versions of Wii games like Wii play and Wii Sports OK, you played Wii Tennis and Wii bowling. Where are the unlockables? No tournament? You cant progress? No online? You cant brag to a noob? Wheres the fun? And Wii Play so you have perfect score on the duck hunting game WHATS THE POINT Thats it? You dont know what skill you have? Atleast Counter Strike you know your skill if you owned a noob or if you're on a scrim or you invited to a tournament or if you become a pro. See what I mean?
Thats what core gamers are afraid of. Whats THE SKILL on playing Wii Music if you just flail your arms around whats the fun on that? see what I mean? Anyway Im posting this for us to know whats the real deal about Wii music. Thats why CAPCOM was afraid of porting Street Fighter IV.
Thats why we want a new Zelda or a new Pikmin game on E3 because we want "skill" involved on the game.

@yushire: Yes, i can see you're not familiar with Wii Sports/Play/Fit.
Even toddlers can pick up a controller and run around. They can also play the "football thingy" and hula hoops, but scoring high isn't excactly easy thing to do. Wii Fit also have a lot of unlockables, believe me, it takes a lot of time. And the balance games aren't easy. The BMI is perfect for tracking weight loss, especially if you are losing weight with someone who isn't your size, it's not supposed to indicate how healthy you are.
There's no duck hunting game in Wii Play, so i take that as you mean Shooting Range. To score a perfect score, you need to be really hardcore, it is a damn hard thing to do, even the platinum medal required a stretch. If you think perfect score isn't enough, you can always try with two Wii Remotes. Or you can play multiplayer to see which one does better. Wii Play doesn't have unlockables, but getting the platinum medals is kind of a stretch, and it has good multiplayer.
Wii Sports, then again, have a lot of unlockables and reaching the pro level requires a lot of skill and practice, it also has a multiplayer, so you can own noobs in it. Perfect scores are almost impossible to get, so you can't just go calling it easy.
I have played Wii Sports/Play/Fit and know what the games are and know how well they have managed to pull it off, so Wii Music definately has the potential. Does it live up to it, who knows, but it has a new consept that really haven't been tried out. The point in Wii Music is to play the songs your own way, either you stay with the rhythm or not, or will you try to play the instument "right" or wrong etc. So far, we really don't know aside the consept being different that what we are used to.

@yushire: Not everyone puts skill as their main interest in playing games. In fact, The Sims should have already proven that most people do not care about any of that. They just want to have fun, not become an expert at some video game they play as a hobby. Also, funny you mention Counter-Strike - I could no longer play the game since they kept releasing patches that limited the skill "ceiling," similar to what happened to Smash Bros (Brawl was crippled for tournament play compared to Melee). The reason you may not know this, is because the people that care that much about it are in the minority.
Wii Music is not a rhythm game like the ones you compare it to - instead, it allows you the freedom to create your own music. If I gave you a musical instrument, you may ask, "What's the point?" Well, it should be obvious - to create music, of course! Wii Music gives you the freedom to control a number of things to allow for creativity (tempo, volume, instruments), which may or may not be enough for the average consumer. Remember, Wii Sports hardly gives you any freedom at all in each of its sports, but that didn't stop it from becoming the most popular game this gen.

@yushire: Wii Play doesn't require skill to get into the game, but it's all about scoring a high score.
It has 4 type of medals as a reward (aside the high score); bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Getting the gold medals isn't that hard, you should be able to get gold with "standard" skills, only the Mii finding game and Tanks may require stretching for gold. But the platinum medals are a different story. In most of the games the platinum requires stretching, Fishing, Billiards and Charge being the easiest IMO (could have been because i liked them the most).
Basically the game is only about using the pointer function, aside from Charge (which controls pretty close to Excite Truck, with the difference that you control the speed by twisting the remote) and Tanks (pointer is used in this, but you move with nunchuck, a Battle City type of game).
And i forgot to say about the E3, that it's not the best possible place to announce core games, because of the number of mainstream media present.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.
"Super Mario Bros at the time was very accessible game, anyone could play it, but if you didn't evolve in skill, you couldn't advance. Pong was very accessible, you just picked up a controller and turned the knob, but if your co-player was more skillful, he'd beat the shit out of you. Wii Sports, anyone could play it, but due to its nature, you needed to learn timing and some physical constraints could make the game too hard, especially for old people."
like it should be.
imagine fat people beating phelps swimming, it doesn't make sense.
@Jo21: Imagine fat people swimming with Phelps. Does it make better sense.
And yes they should be accessible. Because of those two games, your favourite "hardcore" gamer today are what they are.
Pong and SMB are the two most influential games in history and now Wii Sports is going to be the third.
