the 360's only beating the PS3 in terms of RPG sales by default. Sure, the 360 is the only console proven to sell jrpg's decent (though still nothing over 1 mil). But it's winning a one pony race.
For the sake of your credibility, I'd wait until the PS3's been thoroughly tested in its jrpg sellig ability before declaring the 360 the jrpg sales leader. White Knight Chronicles would probably be a good preview of the PS3's jrpg pushing abilities. FF 13's 360 vs PS3 sales will be THE test.
Until then there's really not much to be said.
And for the record, I don't doubt for a second KH3 and FFv13 will sell multiple millions. And that'll be several times the sales of the best selling 360 jrpg, which would be what, Lost Odyssey? Which'll probably max out at just over 1 mil. |
Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy are two of the highest selling RPG series in history. The 360 has yet to get a JRPG series like that, so your comparing apples to oranges with that comment.
Saying Final Fantasy XIII would be the test is also flawed. Even if you drop Japan, most people who are gonna have wanted FFXIII would have bought in PS3 in the howevermanyyears it was still exclusive.
And three...Folklore, Enchanted Arms, Disgaea 3, and next month Eternal Sonata. I think comparing the consoles is quite possible.

Regarding KH3 and FFv13... Ok, true, we probably can't compare 360's jrpg sales to PS3's jrpg sales because really, KH and FF belong in a league of their own. It might not say anything for PS3's strength as a jrpg pusher since they'd sell on anything. BUT, the fact that these titles are PS3 exclusive gives lots of points to the quality of the PS3's jrpg experience when they release.
FF13: Well, when FF13 360 was announced the 360 was leading the PS3 out of Japan by god knows how many million. So, since we're arguing anecdotally on this point: how many people went, "whew, now I don't have to buy a PS3 for FF13!"
And lastly. Folklore is not an rpg. There's no leveling. There's no shops for buying armor and items. GameFAQs lists it under Action Adventure. Gamespot lists it as Fantasy Action Adventure. IGN has it as just Adventure. It has minimal rpg elements, that's it. It's essentially Zelda minus the puzzles.
Disgaea 3 is an rpg, but it's a srpg, which obviously sell lower than traditional rpgs. By Starcraft's faulty argument, I can just as easily claim that the Wii > PS3 >>>> 360 in srpg. Wii has Fire Emblem. PS3 has Disgaea and Valkyria Chronicles. What does the 360 have?
So that leaves us with Enchanted Arms. Where PS3 > 360, when 360 had a huge install base lead over the PS3.
But I'll hand you a bone, and say that on just one game we can't judge PS3 versus 360's jrpg peddling ability. Call it small sample size.
We have to wait for Eternal Sonata and Last Remnant, and possibly Tales of Vesperia to come out on the PS3. And keep in mind that these titles hit the 360 first, so by the time they're on the PS3 the hype would have died down tremendously. And after that, we can talk PS3 versus 360.
