Forums - General - New Metallica album... doesn't suck?

Not a fan of Metallica. Soft rock does it for me....hello Bon Jovi and Aerosmith!

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

AMG gives it a 4/5 (Allmusic.com is the best music reviewer out there, IMO), so it sounds like Metallica did make a good album here.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Pitchfork... those fuckers are so far up their own asses they're hit in the head by everything they eat. Sometimes they're right on but way too often they go into their reviews with an agenda.

The Unforgiven III is probably the weakest track on the album... and it's still an alright tune. It's certainly better than II and I'm not entirely sure what the connection is to the original is, outside of a few similar chord progressions and the presence of instruments besides the usual guitar/bass/drums.

They don't work in a cheesy chorus like Unforgiven II, though near the end of the song, "forgive me not" is said a few times. There's also a pretty kickass guitar solo right after that.

All Nightmare Long would be my pick for the best song on the album and if I thought there was a safe way to do so, I'd love to host it just so people could get a taste of the album.

I agree about Pitchfork.  They're certainly a pretentious website.  But I was just highlighting the Unforgiven part.  I had no idea they made a third version.  Oh well...at least the didn't make a Welcome Home Sanitarium II or a One II...that would be awkward.

I can't wait to see how well the album does in stores worldwide

Its awesome. my apocalypse, day that never comes, unforgiven 3 even, the songs are much better

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

It's out this Friday.

I never get this jonesing for pre black album metalica. Those old songs were great for about 3-4 minutes but had 3 mins of random crap thrown in for no reason. Master of Puppets is at least 4 minutes too long for instance. I thought a lot of the tracks on Load, Reload and especially the Black album were easily their best. They finally got a hold of the concepts of efficiency in song writing and melody.

Maybe I'm the only one in the world who thinks late 90s and beyond Metalica is better then 80s metalica, but it sure seems true to me.

PSN ID: ChosenOne feel free to add me

I hate metallica because when I went to see them live in 2004 Lars Ulrich threw a hissy fit and refuesed to play (although his spokesperson said he was ill, ya right) so they got an all star drumming team together to play with them. Drummers out of slipknot, Korn, cradle of filth and son on... not one of them could keep up and the show was a complete shambles.

In the end a bunch of us at the front started bottling the stage.

Anyway I am a Megadeth fan and I love Megadeth live so maybe I'm a tad bias lol.

anyway the gig I went to see is this one...
