Wii Music could appeal as well for the teenagers that like music/rhythm games. Comparing it to other games in the market, doesn't really tell the whole truth, but comparing how people the games should get us closer the real potential in the current market. Wii Music brings the same freedom as Singstar, people don't play Singstar to score high, they play it as singing a karaoke, in their own way (well, the hit songs are missing from Wii Music). Then, when you look at the gaming habits of people, for example in GTA, they just run around having fun and trying what you can do in the game (different type of game, but it shows the non-objective habits of people playing games). Wii Music also shares the idea of Rockband, multiplayer fun jamming (or that seems to be the mindset). And what's best in Wii Music, everyone can play it, together. |
Ah, but do you not see the inherent problem with your own examples? Wii Sports, Singstar, even just goofing around in GTA killing people and then running from the cops all require one thing - SKILL. So while there may not be game objectives or for GTA you may be ignoring them, you are working on improving your own skill level at whatever the game is. Singing in Singstar, Sports in Wii Sports or cop evasion in GTA. As for other music games you're doing the game objective - matching the rhythm and again, improving your skill at it.
Wii Music requires absolutely NO skill, nor can you ever 'improve' at it. Not from what's been shown so far. Even a toy piano you can pratice on it and improve your skill. With Wii Music you cannot. It will always play the same irregardless. If a baby can play as well as an actual musician then it may be great fun for the baby but no fun for the musician (unless it's his own baby).
As for price, people I'm not suggesting $50 is too expensive for a gift (for this game maybe). I'm suggesting the cost of a Wii+Wii Music for a pre-schooler toy is too much. It doesn't look like it can expand the market like Wii Sports and Wii Fit have.
So I'm not sure who the market is for this game. I'm a casual gamer. No interest. My son (core gamer) - no interest. My Daughter - rather have GH or DDR. My parents - nope. The only person I can see wanting this is my brother for his 4 & 2 year olds, except he doesn't have a Wii (Sony fanboy). If he buys one for Wii Music I'll shut the hell up.
