Forums - Nintendo - Just a quick thought on the next gen Wii

This is assuming Nintendo sticks with the Wii and goes on to the Wii 2, WiiHD, Super Wii, etc..

What would you think if Nintendo offered to let you send in your current Wii and they would modify it to be current gen. standards while keeping all your data still there. It would be cheaper and you wouldn't have to buy an entire new console.

Just a thought..

That should be able to be handled via a software transfer. I don't see any reason that you would need to send it in. Just upload the data to a server...then download it from your new Wii2. Would be quite easy to implement, I would think.

Assuming that it would even be possible, I think it would be a logistical nightmare. Consider the potential number of consoles that might be shipped back to Nintendo for modification. (millions?)

Yeah, I think they will have to do it this way, via our Club Nintendo accounts, etc. Otherwise, a lot of people will be pissed about losing their VC and WiiWare purchases when they want to switch consoles.

I'm asking a personal question here.

Would you rather pay, say, $300 for a new console or $100 to upgrade your current one.

I'd rather get a new console... I would also be a nightmare for Nintendo if 80 million Wiis get shipped back.

Well, yeah, sure I'd rather pay less money for the same thing, if that is what you are asking ...

You could either do the data transfer from a server or do a data transfer directly from the Wii to the new Wii via cable maybe.

That would be a great idea for Nintendo, but who knows, that is such a long time away anyways.

The bolded is why it'll never happen. Remember that this is Nintendo we're talking about here: you may be a valued customer, but only because they can separate you from your money with great efficiency.

That would be awesome........but i dont see it happening. But i hope it can be that way
