Forums - Nintendo - Captain Rainbow - Squeezed out the back door like an untimely fart

WTF? I could say the same thing about Crysis, Assassins Creed or any other new IP. There's no audience.

Every game isn't made to top 10 million in sales, some are supposed to sell more, some less.

What was Nintendo thinking with Fire Emblem, they knew it wasn't going to sell like Mario Kart or Wii Fit.

I don't know what Nintendo was thinking with Captain Rainbow (aside from making money), but i do think that i will get the game if it gets released around here.

That's what happened with Earthbound the greatest RPG ever made... it was so crazy for it's time that most people would have overlooked it but now it has found its fans (I was one of the ones that bought it brand new as the last SNES game I bought) so there will be a market somewhere.

Who's it for?

It's simple.

Nintendo fans who have been playing since the Famicom.

It's for the hardest of the hardcore Nintendo fan.

Not that "Hardcore" gamer... but the guy who had the Famicom system (not NES) and grew up on those weird but awesome games.

You can tell because nearly all the characters are from little known Nintendo games... a lot of which never left japan.

It was basically a big gesture (all beit low budget) to give thanks to the Japanese fans who have stuck with Nintendo all aong, or at least are coming back to the Wii since the NES days.

It's about as close to a game made simply for the fans as you'll get.

Well outside of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

I think you're right. However, what's with the rushed release? Also, those long-term fans are pretty long in the tooth by now. Is this really what they want to be playing?

I don't know much about this one but did you pick it up hanafuda?

No, I sold my Wii. I like to follow the scene in Japan, and this game strikes me as being possibly the most interesting Nintendo game of this year. The thread title is somewhat harsh, but also true.

@Hanafuda: Well the release is in line with Nintendos current policy. Late announcement -> early release.

I don't remember seeing much advertising for Captain Rainbow, other than those nifty weekly videos released on the Nintendo Channel. Is it possible that Nintendo felt that Captain Rainbow is not a system-seller, but would instead appeal most to people who already own a Wii? That might partially explain their advertising strategy.

That being said, I don't watch much broadcast TV, so there may have been TV advertisement spots that I simply missed.

This. Just like warioland (and disaster).

It is the new pattern they are going with, and whether this is a successful approach to marketing to the core gamer, however, is yet to be seen

I just wanted to comment on your thread title being outstanding.

I really don't know enough on Captain Rainbow to comment on the subject though.
