Glad to live somewhat in the north eastern area....Let God do his thing. It's his creation, he said he would not flood the earth again. So, just work around it.

Other than that its, only mans prediction and not really the truth. It could die off...who knows? Just be prepared.

Edited a lot but basicall this was the gist:

Alright I'm sorry people have the right to their religious beliefs and I'm Athiest but I just don't think I could have faith in something that allows that to happen and supposedly they are a loving and forgivining divinity.

Where is New Orleans on that map? All I can recognise is the State of Florida.

How big is Ike compared to Gustav? Your Mayor is going to have a hard time getting people to evacuate, if that is necessary.

Hopefully it misses, but stay safe anyway.

Who fucking cares about oil prices. What about fucking New Orleans. It barely survived Gustav.... Ike would maim it. I mean New Orleans is an economic stronghold for this country and if it goes... America goes. How do you stop and unstoppable force of nature when it means everything to you.

I hope that was sarcasm, since New Orleans isn't even that big of a city (population, size, economic power). And didn't Gustav damage Baton Rouge a lot more than New Orleans? At least that's what I was told in the thread from Outlaw, so I don't really remember. And I definitely care about oil prices. The whole damn world does.

Also, it rained here like crazy from Gustav. Ruined what would have been an otherwise fun Saturday

New Orleans is an economic powerhouse.  25% of all natural gas made in America is made there.  Gustav almost overtipped the levees in New Orleans.  It just barely made it.

oh and Makingmusic I'm sorry bro but if this hits New Orleans bro its gone dude and it may never come back. I mean this would be its nuke.

Wouldn't it be better just to abandon New Orleans and cut your losses? I mean it's just not a good place to build!

I mean I know it has important cultural status, but surely the cost of the last hurricane was astronomical?

Think of not only the economic value of New Orleans but the personal sentiment and cultural history.  I mean this is one of the greatest cities in America if not #1 itself when it comes to things like that.  And I don't mean to be blunt but would you simply abandon your home and city when it's the only thing you've ever known.  I mean all this might seem silly when thinking about the consequences of it all but people are not going to let New Orleans go until it's completely gone.

Yeah, I guess that's why the netherlands still exists

That said, I'm pretty sure people abandoned their home in Georgia when the Russians came, and from what I remember on the news, New Orleans looked a heck of a lot worse. However if I'm wrong in this I'm sorry, seeing as I haven't been to Georgia or New Orleans! Same situation in a lot of war torn countries, I mean heck, that's why refugees exist!

That sucks man, If I go to US im never going during huricane season. May FTW

You could come out to the mid-west, we're in the middle of a drought here! =D

Actually, it's weird. We're in a drought, but we had close to record amounts of snow a few years ago. Still, I'd take blizzards over hurricanes... no offense or anything. =)

Good thing I live in Virginia, we don't get much Hurricanes up here. Sucks for New Orleans.

again? you guys have been through enough.

GREAT AETHER!

Sorry, I had to do it. Gustav did not exactly cripple New Orleans. Teh damage in Baton Rouge is by all accounts way worse. While Ike may or may not wipe New Orleans off the map so to speak, Gustav will have had almost no hand in it. There just wasn't that much damage done to the city itself.
