If cheap sells best why is the 360, post price cut, still not in the top 10 OR the top 20 on Amazon? The PS3 and Wii are always up there, but no 360 at all (in fact the highest 360, the arcade, is even behind the 150 dollar Gears of War 2 lancer).

Some people are stupid or bad at math, for those people "Wow 200 dollars for a 360" will work. Those who can do math will look at a 200 dollar 360 and think "well I'd have to pay 50 dollars per year to go online, 100 for wifi (if I don't want to run ethernet all over the house), 100+ dollars for a tiny 20GB hard drive add on (maybe 100 dollars or a 60GB now, yay) and it still won't play blu ray or do anything else the PS3 can do". arcade+HD+Online+wifi=450 dollars, and thats with a smaller HD then the PS3 comes with standard. It's a worse deal and I think most consumers know that (especially in Europe)

In other news the Kia Rio is the cheapest car on the market at 10,000 dollars but is also one of the worst selling because it sucks. The camary is a very good seller, far better then the kia, but also is twice as much with a lot more features then the Rio. Cheap isn't always the winner. Plus if people REALLY want cheap, there's the PS2 which I bet will be 99 dollars for the holidays or the current price with more bundled games.

1. Amazon isn't reliable - If the PS3 can lead over the Wii on amazon why is it still being pwned overall?

2. Systems without a fleshed out online (Wii/Xbox 360 arcade) are >50% of the market.

3. The attach rate for internet is <50% for the PS3 and it is free and the PS3 has Wifi.

4. Not everyone who buys PS3s uses it to play Blu Ray.

So if 50% of the market doesn't use all the online functionality, explain why they would want to pay an extra $100 for a 60gb HDD?

So if a large proportion of the userbase with PS3s doesn't even use Blu Ray, why would Xbox 360 owners as a whole care at this time?

5. The PS2 is actually $130 and it needs a $25 memory card - That makes it pretty darn close to the price of the Arcade which does have online functionality and anyone who buys a PS2 over an Arcade at this point really needs their head examined. Since this is controversial I'll explain.

  • Awesome library? (Much of it is out of print/hard to find)
  • Awesome upcoming titles? (Like?)
  • Awesome visuals? (The Xbox 360 shows a clear difference even lay people can appreciate)
  • Great word of mouth? (Gamestop employees will likely suggest an Xbox 360 Arcade if you're holding a PS2 box. - I would) Also if you're buying it for the kids do they want a PS2? *All my friends have Xbox 360s and Wiis! and PS3s! *

what about EU they still buy ps2,, hasn't the xbox gotten a price cut there already????

PS2 is not available anymore in most EU countries with a average or better economy

I am from Greece (Southeastern Europe) and the shops here only sell X360, PS3 and Wii

By the way I endorse price cuts any time by any system..

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

ps2 sold about  43k last week

All I can say is whoever chooses to buy a 360 arcade is pretty dumb...

GO FOR PRO.

Hope MS can give 360 arcade for free.....

the bluray aspect of the ps3 wont be a factor at all this holiday season , the reason the sales for bluray movies are still way too low is because the average prices of bluray movies are $30 or more. and wifi isnt a factor either, ppl want a system to play games on, pure and simple. the $199 arcade is a very good deal, u get too play the hottest games on the system with the best lineup. u can get a used 20gig hdd for about $30 or a new $60 when their available for $70. with the hdd u choose u still would be under the ps3 price. also xbl is the king of the online realm, where psn still needs alot of work, its a good service just not in xbl's league yet. i think with the lineup of games and the new prices, the 360 will outsell the ps3 every month for the rest of the year in the states, europe is a tougher call and japan i wish it would happen but i know it wouldnt.

i think resistance and LBP can compete with gears and fable

Possibly. But a $400 PS3 can't compete with a $200 Xbox 360. That's where the battle lies - in increasing the userbase.

Plus, I don't really see Resistance selling more than 6m copies to match, or beat Gears...LBP and Fable are a tossup, although I don't "get" the LBP hype.

400$ includes a 80gb harddrive, blu ray, wifi, and a better quality machine.

that the 360 don't have.

if you add the HDD and wifi on the arcade its already more expensive than the ps3.

watch the developer talks if you don't get the game if that game doens't put a smile on your face there is nothing more  i can say to convince you since i certainly be wasting my time.

And how much of that do you need to play Gears, LBP, Fable 2, or Resistance?

Answer: You still pay $400 to play LBP or Resistance 2..Or $200 for Gears and Fable 2. You don't need Wifi, a 80GB HDD

I don't think the consumer is really going to look and say "OMG! 80 extra gigs and wifi for ONLY $200! How can I lose?!?!?!"

Consumers care about PRICE. If they cared about Wifi, Blu-Ray and a huge HDD, then why is the Wii selling more than the X360 and PS3 combined in many areas?

Again, and I'll keep saying it, during Christmas, what looks better? A $200, or $400 system? Not everyone cares about bells and whistles, and wants basic next-gen preformance for the games.

RICH people are willing to pay more to get more

it's not like u r buying something for 200000 when there's something for 100000

it's only 200

and the arcade can't play online right?

There fixed

and yes the arcade can play online.

For a hardcore gamer, the arcade is just stupid...but for a casual gamer, or someone with a low income, or parents buyin a gift for their kid, its perfect (this is why the wii is doin so good)

I was about to respond, but you handled it quite nicely.

Why pay for functionality you would never use?  If I didn't play online so much, the arcade would be great.  I could play the exact same game for a lot less.

Electronic Entertainment Design and Research analyst Jesse Divnich told GameSpot that Microsoft's $199 SKU puts the company in prime position to halt Sony's surging PlayStation 3. "Microsoft has the industry's best exclusive licenses, such as Halo, Gears of War, and Fable," noted Divnich.  ...  So with Microsoft beating Sony on pricing, beating them on library, and beating them on services with Xbox Live, the price cut should shift momentum back to the 360," asserted Divnich.

OK, this guy is either a moron or a complete xbot.  Sorry, but Mario is the best exclusive license (main games, kart, brawl, etc).  I would say that Gran Turismo comes next.  Halo I would put in next along with Zelda.  GeoW could get there if this version outsells the first version.  Fable??  Are you kidding?  Not even close to the others.

As for the second part above, all of that has been true for the last 1.5 years.  There will be no momentum shift.  More 360's will be sold, but not enough to shift any momentum.
