Yes there were just as many fanboys just it was harder to argue with them cause they had sales on their side... I was a PS2 and GC fan and was attacked just for liking GC, or saying how "where the PS2 lacks GC makes up for" and being obliterated by the rabid PS2 and Xbox fanboys (don't even know why Xbox fanboys wanted to support PS2 on such a minor comment) But I can say without a doubt there were just as many fanboys but it was harder to fight them most have listened to logic or grown up.

This generation is the perfect recipe for Fanboy rage.

PS3 is the successor to a dynasty who threw everything away for Blu-Ray and is selling itself solely on promises.

The 360 is steadily losing ground to the PS3 on a weekly basis despite a superior game library and is mired by the lingering negative impact of RROD.

And the Wii is the reigning champion with hardly any third party support not to mention the weakest graphics which greatly limit the possibilities of cross platform support.

Only in a generation where nobody really wins could there be this many angry fanboys.

there will always be fanboys. i started with the 8Bit generation nes v ms and was a nintendo fanboy up until my mid teens (ps1 n64 era).

now i realise that being a fanboy ultimatly means missing out. why look forward to banjo on the 360 when you could have been playing mario galaxy. or why look forward to resistance 2 when you could have been playing halo3. please dont bash, these are just 2 example off the top of my head.

over the last year (roughly) ive played gears of war, mario galaxy and mgs4. its time to play the games not the consoles.

this doesnt even apply to just video games, a good example is the recent release of the dark night. half my mates love it the other half prefer the burton/keaton movies.

The last generation wasn't as bad, since PS2 continued the PSX dominance, so nothing drastic happened. The biggest fanboy fights were when DC was discontinued and Sega fanboys blamed Sony for it.
M$ entered the market with Xbox, which caused M$:s viral marketers to enter the fight stirring it up a little.
But bigger fight was 5th gen, when Sony gained dominance, not to mention 4th, when things got really dirty. Oh, the times...
