It seems like Microsoft is doing everything it possibly can to beat the PS3. They do not want to come in third place again this generation, and who can blam them.
But to me that approach seems to be a little short sighted. It shows absolute weekness to drop the prices when the company was just starting to achieve profitability in the gaming market.
Even if recently MSFT was back into the red, then that is even more of a reason to not slach the prices more and more.
Last year when Sony went price cut crazy, it was to bring the PS3's price down to earth. To let Sony take its first breath.
But for Microsoft, they are already cheaper than the PS3, are close to profitability on hardware, and appeal to a completely different demographic than the wii... So this does not make a lot of sense from a profitability standpoint.
And even still, I think the WW PS3 levels will edge out the 360 on the highest week that the 360 sees from the NA pricecut.
Microsoft are here to stay in the console market, Sony fans are worried because another "corporation" are now in the gaming business and taking once sony exclusives at an alarming rate, not only that, microsofts pockets are even deeper than sonys and we all know thats how sony got to where they are today in the gaming business....... money not talent

Of course they have a choice. It's the perfect way to kick off the new holiday season.
The new 65nm/65nm 360s are probably dirt cheap to manufacture, as well. I wouldn't worry too much about MS.

stop being so damb touchy na man, all i am saying is why be in this business if you just going to keep loosing money. and they must be loosing money becasue they lost money last quarter

Ironic considering they're hoping for more PS3 price cuts when Sony is losing more money than MS... |
Ironic considering that you obviously didn't see the financial results for last quarter.
And MSs financial results for this quarter will too be considerably worse than Sony's.

Can you provide a link detailing the exact amount of money the 'games' division lost?
| twesterm said: Right, because you truly know everything and MS doesn't have piles of money. |
No because i look at the sales and profit in this case lose report every quarter. the money is going somewhere
