Remember how Microsoft is over 6 billion dollars in the red in their gaming division?

Good times.

Didn't you know the xbox division is a not for profit company funded by Windows?  That's what most xbox fans would have you believe.

The key is that Sony sold more PS3's than Microsoft in the last quarter.  And.... Sony made a profit with their games division in the last quarter while the Microsoft games division turned a loss in the last quarter.  But Sony actually wants to make money so they won't respond to this price cut.  That's what the xbox fanboy thinks.

Yes, Sony cut its price and hit took a 180. Wait for Microsoft's price cut.

Yeah, one can expect some improvements, give nwhat happened with the temp price cut.

I love how all these sony fanboys are raving about M$ losing money...lol...yeah, M$ is just a company who's ALWAYS losing money...ROFLOL.  NVM that they had more FREE CASH a few years ago, then Sony's total MKT CAP...lol.

First rule of economics: Only consider cost and benefit in the future, not the past.  It doesnt matter if XBox made a billion dollars or lost a billion dollars in the past, the only thing Microsoft should (and since they are ran by people who understand economics, do) consider is potential costs and benefits in the future.

while true you can get a picture about how a price drop or a large game could effect sales... we look at the past to get an idea of the future because the trends don't generally buck unless something huge happens

I would go one step farther and say the best indicator of the future is the past. That's why such an emphasis is placed on financial statements. Or do we need that graph that shows the Wii actually decreasing in userbase near the end of it's life while the PS3 doubles each year?

Statistics can be an amazing thing when  sales DOUBLE from 5 people to 10 people...lol...great job, while Wii see only a slight increase...but it's because it's so far ahead, there is no way to compare the two.  PS3 only shot is to catch 360, and hta'ts not looking too good with the coming price cuts either...so...from 1st to 3rd...sound like somebody is going to get fired at Sony, imho.

you do realize that in the e & d devision, 360 is lumped in with zune and game for windows right? so if both of those do bad(which they are), the division is in the red. ps3 fanboys can say "oh look their e&d division is in the red, 360 is in trouble", but if you acutally break down the numbers for the 360, it tells a different story.

they have no choice.

Of course they have a choice. It's the perfect way to kick off the new holiday season.

no, it's the only way to keep up.

Question? I'll try not to insult you. Do you know what a fanboy is?

"I hope you know that this price drop could cause Microsoft to sell 4-6 Mil consoles worldwide all the way to the end of the holiday season. Sony cannot take a hit like that this year."

This.

You're hilarious. Thats a fair estimate. You're just nutthugging Sony so badly that you don't understand that. You're failing to realize that. I am neither on Microsofts side nor on Sony's side. I will be a proud owner of both systems, but you fail to realize that Microsoft is at the stage where they can profit off of the lower/middle class within the market. Sony has a year until they can reach the $299, $200 where the sales count. By then Microsoft could be 6-7 million consoles ahead. That would be an 1.7-2.3 million stretch.

I am funny as hell. btw, I am actually happy MS is lowering their prices, I wish Sony would too. I just like playing with fanboys emotions.

LOL I don't see the point of being a fanboy. It's not worth my time. I have things to do. I'll buy the system, but I cannot deny when I see progress that I never thought that i'd see out of MS.

This sentence from a consumer is why MS is doing so well this Gen. MS's gaming division is listening to the consumers, making great games, and cutting prices. All (WINS), heading into a big holiday season. Especially when you have a console (Effective Sept 5th) that is now $200 dollars cheaper than its direct competitor.

Wow....I cant wait to see the numbers in January.

Can they afford it? Of course, they could give the things away for free if they wanted to.

Would their shareholders like it? That's a different story.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

So you really havent seen MS history. they are known for killing the competition with price cuts, Bundling IE windows, and more. They are a master at competing. I actually expected more from them this Gen espacially after Sony singlehandledly messed up their chances early on.

1. They came out first

2. they have the best game library

3. they were always cheaper.

4. Better third party support.

5. Live

MS has all the advantages this Gen, yet sadly they will end up last.

The $199 arcade technically is more in competition with the Wii. Holiday shopping is very much price dictated, and people looking to spend ~200-250 on a console will be deciding between the Wii and the Arcade. The Wii, if they can find one, should win if this gen has taught us anything.

The Premum and Elites are gonna be the ones competing with the PS3, and they are at what, $299 and $399? So they only drop $50. It'll definitely have an effect, but when the PS3 is only $100 more than the Premium, and same price as the Elite, it wont make too much difference.

1. Sony already did that with the PS2.

2. So was the PS2

3. So was the PS2

4. The PS3 still has better third party support, MS just took Sony's top selling 3rd parties.

5. Always has been better than PSN.

You have no facts to back up what you're saying. I would like to see your end of the year projections. Please, i'd love to see them.
