No one appreciates what Rol just dug up from the crates yet!? But yeah, I can see now that there must've been a lot of threads getting on XBox360 games for short lengths.

If Super Mario Galaxy is seven hours long then I am the worst gamer on the planet. I clicked on the thread Rol brought up.

I might have forgiven it if I didn't need motion plus to make full use of the game. The price for extra control sets on the wii is a huge joke already, not buying into add-ons for all. Nintendo just ripping people off there. Looking at how much extra controls sets would cost, I could buy a 360 with a couple games for heavens sake.
Still, that's a short game, I don't care if some other FPS games are short, they just fail as well. A poor standard is not an acceptable standard.
The time when cutscenes (in-game or not) should be omitted when progressing story in games has long past, any game not doing that given the capabilities today is just bad and taking steps backwards.
Nine levels only tells me the areas are going to get repetitive fast, there could be more than nine areas? Surely that should mean there will be more than nine levels then? |
Who says you need the Motion Plus? Do you need the Zapper to enjoy Umbrella Chronicles? Do you need the Wheel to enjoy Mario Kart? The game will probably support it for extra sensitivity and maybe a gimmick or two. The Conduit is made without the Motion Plus in mind, so it probably isn't necessary to have it.
Also, not using cutscenes is an artistic choice, it has nothing to do with lazyness or lack of skill. The Half-Life series don't have any cutscenes, you want to tell me Half-Life is shit because of it?
About the 10 hours, the original article says it takes about 10 hours if you rush through the levels, but it takes more time if you explore the levels a bit. 10+ hours is pretty long for a shooter, and it has a multiplayer component to boot.
I get the feeling you didn't like the game in the first place and feel this article is a justification to bash the game.
@Exblackman -- GI and most UK sites hate the Wii, so negativity from them is not new -- nor is reporting that is questionable. (Other threads have exposed the GI statement as being an exaggeration at best. There was word about WMP prior to E3, just very discreet).
@Rol -- touché on Legend.
Back to the OP -- I remember seeing complaints about Heavenly Sword being only 8 hours long -- but that game had no multi player.
I do not remember a lot of threads complaining about Halo 3 being roughly the same length -- I think a lot of people bought it just for multi player.

Half-Life 2 did amazing with no cutscenes. Only 9 levels = Pathetic. I'm pretty sure that Halo 3 had ~9 levels But the icing on the cake? Motion plus requirement for full enjoyment? That is this game off my list. You are probably not going to be required to use it. I was really looking forward to this game, not anymore. I couldn't care less about the online multiplayer, I've long given up dealing with the crappiness that is online Wii gaming. |

So, I bought a Wii (1 Wiimote + Nunchuck) for 250$ then got Wii Play + another Nunchuck (+70$). That is all the accessories I own for the system, and I own around 10 games. Yes, when Wii Sports Resort comes out I'll probably pick it up. I might even buy another WM+, but that'll depend on a number of things.
My point is, yes, it's expensive to own a Wii if you buy everything they released for it. But it would also be expensive to buy a 360 + HD-DVD drive + expanded hard drive + 4 controllers + rechargable battery attachments, or a PS3 + 7 dual shock 3s. You don't need it all!
Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

Not much, the FPS genre is pretty poor this gen of gaming, single player viewpoint anyway. |
Well. If you feel that way then why bash a new one coming out? If it doesn't interest you then it doesn't interest you.
Also don't go on about Nintendo ripping consumers off with the Wii Motion Plus. This is going to make the Wii Remote an improved controller. Most other companies wouldn't give you the better controller until the nest console came out.
Also looking at your avatar I am guessing that you are a Resident Evil fan. I like it too but I could go on and on about it's outdated control scheme. It looks like in the Conduit you can shoot without having to stop.

For those complaining about the length, posters in a Microsoft thread described the main story of Bioshock and Assassin's Creed in the same 10-hour range. And these are games that are meant to be mainly single player experiences (at least the way I understand them).

Ripping a multiplayer FPS for a 10-hour single player campaign is like ripping SSBB for a 10-hour adventure quest.
