Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 360 to sell more FFXIII’s than PS3?

they should bundle xbox 360 FFXIII version with a faceplate featuring Lightning..

But I think ps3 will take the lead mostly because of japan helping to swing the favour.

Hmm, let's see...

  • It's still a PS3 exclusive in Japan. PS3's install base isn't too big there, though. Still, it will get a significant number for the PS3 from Japan.
  • The series is 'connected' to Playstation. No, GTA isn't a good example here; it was for one generation only and the games were later released on the Xbox and PC as well. FF, however, has been a PS exclusive for some time now (excluding the first PS games VII and VIII and the MMORPG one, XI - oh, and the spin-offs).
  • The PS3 version is likely to be slightly, but only slightly, better because of Blu-ray.
  • The PS3 will also get Versus.
  • PS3's install base will probably be close to that of X360's by the time of the game's release in the west. It could even have surpassed the sales of X360. Anyway, install base won't be a problem.
  • PS3's price might be lower than it is now by the time of the game's release.

On the other hand...

  • I wouldn't be surprised if many JRPG fans would have bought X360 already. Thus they would already have a console for FFXIII and will probably not want to buy a new, more expensinve one.
  • The versions have been promised to be pretty much the same (well, the X360 version will probably have more discs).
  • X360 is cheaper.

Sorry if I missed any important things.

One thing we don't know much about is the game engine. The game is being developed on PC but surely they have designed the game for the PS3 so I guess it won't be the worse one at least. Even if they could make the X360 version better, they might decide not to make it. After all, it was to be a PS3 game only. I guess they're really aiming for equal versions but if either version is even slightly better, it'll be the PS3 one.

Dodece, I gave dozens of reasons and the best you can give are "demographics" and "LULZ FANBOY LUST?" Enchanted Arms sold better on the PS3 than the 360 despite the game only having data for the Americas and the PS3 having a far lower userbase there. When you include data for Japan and PAL (if it was released in PAL), then the difference might be even larger.

We've seen plenty of big series on the Playstation 1 and 2 transition to the PS3 and see huge sales, even if they've sold more on the 360 (Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo, Call of Duty, Need for Speed, etc.). You can argue that the PS3 version won't sell as much as some people believe, but don't try to convince me or anyone else that the 360 version will sell better. You know it won't and so do I.

By the time it comes out the PS3 will be well ahead in Japan and others and almost caught up in north America. There is almost 0 chance of the 360 getting anywhere near even with the PS3 on sales of this game much less ahead. I don't think anyone who owns both is going to even think twice about what platform to get it on. Hmm...do I want better graphics, no slow down (see infinate undiscovery for slow down with good graphics on the 360) and 1 disk or do I want the 5 disk choppy 360 version? Easy pick.

Watch for a MS announcement of phantom downloadable content they bought for 100 million dollars inc soon.

If GTA4 is an indicator, there won't be much of a bump on either system for US / EU. However, a HUGE PS3 bump in Japan the week it comes out can be expected. Japan has usually had 40% of the sales of an FF title. This time, I expect 30% for Japan due to multi-plat in EU and US and the differences in install base of PS3 to PS1/PS2 over there.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

FFXIII PS3 in Japan ALONE >>>>>>>>>> FFXIII 360 WW

Worldwide, without Japan, almost no chance of 360 version outselling PS3 IMHO. By the time it hits US/Others its likely PS3 in Others will have higher PS3 than 360 install base, so like with many recent multi plat games I expect PS3 to outsell 360 in Others for the title. In Japan its going to be zero on 360 so no surprises there. In US 360 will outsell PS3 but I really don't believe it can outsell it enough to cover the delta from Japan and Others.

Also, I have serious doubts that enough PS3 owners are going to not buy as some sort of protest. A few might - but in my experience gamers are terribly weak when it comes to 'I'm not buying that game' in protest mode. They buy... even when said game is rubbish. So I doubt millions of PS3 owners who want FF are going to duck the purchase because its on 360. If anything when push comes to shove they'll probably buy if only to enable PS3 to beat 360 for WW sales.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

                                     japan usa others

DMC4 PS3                    0.31m 0.52m 0.41m

DMC4 Xbox360             0.07m 0.73m 0.31m

I think dmc4 is the most close example to FFXIII,as it was associated with the ps brand and a lot of ps3 fans felt betrayed when it went multiplat as well.
even with the gap between xbox360 and ps3 in others the game still managed to sell better and that gap will not exist when FFXIII is released, and it's exclusive in japan, US will be probably close with xbox360 FFXIII selling a bit more.

so think dmc4 difference in sales x10 (about a 1/1.5 million)

What everyone usually overlooks in these discussions is that the demographics for both consoles are not the same. First the typical 360 consumer on average is a more aggressive purchaser. Second the 360 is a role playing console. More so now then before the Final Fantasy announcement.

To be very plain if we are talking a huge title, and one in a predominantly 360 genre we should expect the adoption rate for the title to be much higher on the 360 then on the PS3. Further more one market is entirely irrelevant thus far this generation, and that market would be Japan. Japan has a real hard on for portable gaming. The market seems downright chilly for the genre on consoles. Even Dragon Quest has yet to drag itself over a million units sold total on the regions dominant platform.

I have never understood the logic that somehow the PS3 is going to move a lot of role playing games. When it has yet to ever sell more then a half a million units even in its limited library. I also do not understand the logic that says the typical PS3 owner even wants to play this genre anyway. I know it was used as a sword in fanboy debates, but the blade even then seemed rusty. Were the typical PS3 owner truly interested in this genre they would have not bought a PS3 especially a year after launch. Once the 360 had over a dozen titles compared to all of three the PS3 had. Even now it is questionable whether a genre fan should pick up a PS3. While there is ample incentive for them to pick up a 360.

This goes beyond install bases. This goes to the core of the demographics. Were we talking about a fantastic first person shooter with a wonderful online component being for both platforms. There would be no debate the 360 would sell more, because the 360 install base adores that genre. I am not entirely sure what it is that sets the PS3 user base off, but it is a totally different beast.

I see no reason for the supposition that the PS3 will sell more thirteen beyond stupid fanboy lust. There needs to be some actual proof that this console can move this genre. The average owner isn't going to just buy this title, because they are expected to.

What absolute Tosh & misleading BS

Seriously Dodece just answer the damn question instead talking about demographic crap & fanboy crap....because fater that post you just made I don't see why you are shooting down fanboys..
