Forums - Sony - Who else thinks Sony needs to kill the PS2?

Hmmmm let me see. PS2 is $129 and PS3 is $399. There is no chance that gamers are discussing this kind of purchase. In this case money is a huge problem. It's because PS2 buyers are new to the market where as PS3 gamers are still experienced gamers.
However in my opinion Sony already killed the PS2. From now on third party support is keeping it alive.

They announced end of production for the PS1 6 months before PS3 was released. No reason to get rid of the PS2 from a financial perspective. It's easy money.

 My friend has not purchased a PS3 nor a Xbox 360 because he has multiplat games on the PS2 that Sony is still allowing to be pumped out. He already has a Wii and has refused to buy a next gen HD console until the PS2 dies. If Sony allows the multiplats to sell on the PS2 that are already on the PS3 that people still love, they take the appeal away from the PS3. There are millions more who feel the same way that he does, when he feels he could spend his money of shit that matters and still get a great gaming experience with the PS2 and Wii.

The PS2 can die when people no longer see it as a viable product. IMO it is going to be a long time before that ever happens.

Next year we will see it hit the 99.99 dollar price point in the US and I see it having at least another 2 years left in it once that price is hit.

This will happen with the PS3 also. Sony has built the Playstation brand as a name consumers can trust, to do many this for a good price and see support for many many years. The PS3 will live much longer than the PS2, even though it may not look like it now to some, it is the truth.

Right now many people could care less about Blu-ray, 100+GB HDD, 1000Gb ethernet, HDMI, and such. However in 6 years from now when the PS3 is selling for 149.99, and the PS4 is 799.99, and Internet speeds are crazy fast everywhere, then we will see why the PS3 will be yet another 100M console for Sony.



Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

$100 this holiday, not next year, says I.

And no, the PS2 is competing with the Wii much more than the PS3 and 360, so Sony would be foolish to kill it, even aside from the fact that it's a money machine for them.

Why would any Sony fan want them to kill the PS2? The PS2 is keeping SCE a float. Without the PS2, the PS3 would be going belly up due to lack of funding.
