@Gnizmo: Give me links to back up your arguements then, if what I say is BS. Ill be waiting for a confirmation that this was actually a pet project made by 2 people of a C-team that had no budget.
And if Smash Bros was a successful pet project, why couldnt this one be one too? As for the previous Skip games, one was an RPG, the other was an Action game, this one is an Action Adventure game. Yeah action games are more popular in Japan than Act.Adv. games /sarcasm
If you dont see this a Japanese oriented game, then what do you see? The game has a Japanese sense of humour to it. Most of the jokes could only be understood by them. They would be hard to understand for the west without proper translation. For example the bleeding nose, which means that the guy is horny.
" But feel free to ignore all logic and evidence that dares to run counter to the things you know for certain with absolutely no evidence to back it. This game had no budget what-so-ever and had the C-team of graphical artists which clearly means it was meant to be the next Wii Fit. "
Wheres all that logic and evidence you are talking about? Youre telling me Wii Fit had a very high budget with the best graphics team? Now you just killed your entire arguement.

I would actually bet on Wii Fit being one of the bigger budget titles in recent years for Nintendo. That all comes from R&D on the balance board though so it isn't immediatly reflected in the games quality graphically or any other way really. I guess my arguement is a zombie now.
I'll get you the links right after you find me the sales expectations from Nintendo that let you know the game bombed. I mean clearly you have this mountain of evidence behind you to try and dismiss my claims. You certainly wouldn't ask for something you don't have to disprove your claim right?
And the reason you wouldn't expect this to be a very successful pet project like Smash Brothers is because Smash was the exception rather than the rule for low budget games. There was no reason to expect it to sell the way ti did, and playing it you can certainly tell it was not ever meant to be as big as it was.
Expanding from that you can see in Captain Rainbow the rough areas. The graphics are sub-par by any standards around, and the game doesn't do anything impressive to make up for it. It relies almost exclusively on the quircky and humorous story to keep people playing. The gameplay, music, and just about everything else are clearly under developed.
And yes it will appeal more to Japanese gamers than others but that doesn't really make it a Japanese oriented game in the way you were using it. Just because it appeals more to the Japanese market does not mean it appeals to a large portion of the Japanese market. I would say games labeled as "casual" are what could be considered Japanese oriented right now. They seem to be in love with cute things on screen, and ganeplay that does not require more than 10 minutes of your time a session.
